“Why are so many autistic people non binary or trans?” This is so simple, and I’ll tell you why from the perspective of an autistic woman who used to be trans. Autistic people typically don’t fit into social norms. We’re also more likely to be isolated because we have a lifetime of dealing with people misinterpreting us. So when we hear that we must be trans because we don’t fit into social norms and there’s a community of other autistic people telling us how happy they are because they transitioned, it becomes our new special interest and the social media algorithm creates a loop in our mind that transition = happiness. But what we really need is to go off social media and connect with people.

@forestvanslyke My nephew with autism is obsessed with social "rules" to make sense of the world. He refuses to sit in the room where the kids play dolls even for a second because he is a boy and he called my b/g twins 'the girls' for years because my son had long hair.

@forestvanslyke He's not the only one by the way, I was asked on several occasions about my son's 'gender identity' at school because he wanted to grow his hair to his butt 🙄
