@lsanger Larry, it is semantic issue, not a logical issue. There is no consensus on how to define "Christian." How you define "Christian" depends on how you understand Scripture, and that is subjective. "Scotsman" has an agreed upon meaning (generally).

@MrFluferMufin @lsanger There are two different questions: 1. Would Christians personally affirm the Nicene Creed? 2. Would Christians agree that affirming the Nicene Creed is what defines Christianity? I am talking about #2 which is much lower than 95%. Was John Milton a Christian? Isaac Newton?

@ElonsonBack @lsanger It’s not actually about the creeds, they’re just helpful at simplifying the issue, the creed doesn’t matter, but who Jesus is does and Jesus is God who created everything and is the beginning and the end.

@MrFluferMufin @lsanger "they’re just helpful at simplifying the issue" Ha. Three of the first four major councils ended up causing long-lasting or permanent schisms in the church. One long-lasting. Two permanent: 431 and 451.

@MrFluferMufin @lsanger Theodosius II died in 450 CE after falling from his horse while hunting. Historians point to Theodosius II's horse-riding accident as one of the most consequential events in church history b/c it opened the way for the Council of Chalcedon and the lasting divisions that followed.

@MrFluferMufin @lsanger Jesus is "homoousios" (of the same substance) with the Father, but the Holy Spirit is not. Do you believe this?

@ElonsonBack @lsanger They are one, so no, I don’t believe what you just wrote. Jesus said He and the Father is one. There is only one God

@ElonsonBack @lsanger It’s not about any creeds, if the creeds say what the scripture says then good, if not, they’re invalid. You don’t believe scripture because you think they’re different.

@ElonsonBack @lsanger Do you believe the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are one and there are no others? That Jesus is God who created all things seen and unseen?
