In 2011, Ellen Greenberg, a teacher in Philadelphia, returned home after a blizzard hit the city.
At 6:40 PM, her fiancé came back from the gym and found their apartment door bolted shut. After calling her repeatedly for an hour with no response, he knocked down the door.
Inside, he found Ellen slumped against the kitchen cabinets, covered in blood. A knife was still lodged in her chest. She had 20 stab wounds, including 10 to the back of her head and neck, some of which went deep into her spinal cord.
Despite the overwhelming evidence, her death was ruled a suicide.
Ellen Greenberg was 27.
