"sleep training" a newborn means letting a defenseless baby scream for its mother in the dark until it's either exhausted or has given up on life. the attachment literature is clear that before 6 months, a baby crying with nobody coming learns exactly one thing, that calling for help doesn't work and you even have parents bragging about how they tortured their kid into an 8h sleep you need to attend to every need of your child. they don't have a prefrontal cortex able to understand what's happening. if you love them and care for them, they'll barely cry, and when they do there's a clear reason you can address right away

Even without all the literature, I will never understand how any parent can sit there and let their baby cry until they literally exhaust themselves. You really think that makes sense? You really think they have self soothed? You really think that sleep after crying for hours across days or weeks has made them better? Never in a million years. It’s just made your life easier. At least admit it. There’s a reason your babies cry reaches into the depths of your soul. To ignore every single instinct when every cell of your body is screaming to soothe that baby, because it’ll “help them” is insane. And you’re retarded for believing that.

I know parents of young kids who have a “1-tuck rule” where they put the kid in bed and tell them they will not get another tuck-in if they have to go to the bathroom or god forbid try to come snuggle with their parents. You’re in your room until the goddamn light turns green kid. See you in 11 hours.

@IterIntellectus @DocAbirHealth They’ll say “they slept so well after that” like ya I sleep like the dead after my cortisol shoots through the roof. Or when Ive been sick or terrible hungover.

@IterIntellectus @DocAbirHealth Letting a baby cry for a few minutes can allow them to release built-up tension, overstimulation, or frustration, helping them eventually settle into sleep. Never heard of anyone just letting the baby just scream and cry forever 🤣
