In 1979, Walter Trump, a high-school math teacher, discovered the tightest known packing of 11 equal squares inside a square. The enclosing square must have side length L≈ 3.877084. Even in the optimal arrangement, only ~73% of the area is filled.

Math isn't just about equations sometimes; it grows into a masterpiece. ✨ The Pythagoras Tree fractal is a prime example of how simple math creates such complex beauty.

The Cauchy Residue Theorem ✍️ It is a mathematical shortcut that helps you calculate the overall behavior of a complex function along a closed boundary by focusing only on specific trouble spots inside it. Instead of doing a complicated calculation at every point on a path, you find isolated points where the function fails, known as singularities. You then determine the strength or influence of each singularity, called its residue. The smooth parts of the function generally cancel each other out, so the final outcome of your path calculation is just the sum of these internal residues multiplied by a fixed constant. This turns a complex motion or flow problem into a simple task of identifying and adding the values of the individual disruptions within your loop.

Was subbing for a class today & most kids finished their makeup work… So instead of just letting kids waste time on Chromebooks, I grabbed some puzzles and sudoku pages from my classroom & had the students do something better.
