Education is the most powerful cause for good. A good education can change lives. A great education system can change countries. It is the privilege of my life to be able to play a part in making our education system better and fairer and opening the doors of opportunity for more Australians.

Thank you for joining me in Melbourne tonight @narendramodi. Our Indian community has contributed so much to the story of modern Australia. And it’s made our country a better place.  Tonight we celebrated the special relationship between Australia and India.

Australia and India are great friends. The work we did today will make our friendship even stronger.

The relationship between Australia and India has never been stronger 🇦🇺🇮🇳 And today we’re building on our ties in defence, trade, investment and energy. As well as our work in education and technology. Because together, we can be a force for peace and prosperity in our region.

Great news. Flinders University has now received approval to establish a university campus in India, joining seven other Australian unis approved to do this. Victoria University has also now secured approval to commence teaching in India at their campus in Delhi. Education is one of the most important bridges between Australia and India. It's not a one way street. It's not just about Indian students studying in Australia. It's increasingly about Australian universities taking the best of Australian education to India. Great to hold an education roundtable with the university sector about this work today.

Education Ministers have agreed to rolling reform of the national curriculum. Starting with maths and starting with the first three years of maths. Here’s an excerpt from my message to the Catholic Secondary Principals Conference.

The Albanese Labor Government has put all public schools on a pathway to full and fair funding. We’re the first government to ever do this. It means an extra $20 billion over the next decade and an extra $50 billion in the decade after that. It’s not a blank cheque - it’s tied to real and practical reforms. Things like evidence-based teaching, year 1 phonics checks, numeracy checks and small group and catch up tutoring. It’s all about helping kids catch up, keep up and finish school.

These are the types of cuts I like. ✂️ Check out the new $1M Learning and Innovation Centre at James Busby High School funded by the Albanese Labor Government. Great to open it with my friend @AnneWerriwa

I recently got to spend some time with a few incredible people, including Robbie who lives in my local area. Robbie, Tegan, Kieran and Jess were up in Parliament to talk about bowel cancer. Bowel cancer is on the rise including in young people. Their advocacy work on screenings is saving lives and the work they are doing with Bowel Cancer Australia is making a big difference for people impacted by this.

We have introduced legislation to help more kids from poor backgrounds and from the bush and the regions go to uni. The Liberals have made it clear they hate it. But it is also clear the National Party are going to roll them and make them vote for it.
