NY Times has essentially confirmed that Israel played a role in stimulating the violent regime change riots that left around 3000 dead in Iran this January 8 and 9, but which were marketed in the West as pro-democracy protests. It was well understood by the Mossad that those riots would help stimulate military action by Trump. Israeli intel merely needed to convince the feeble-minded president that a wave of decapitation strikes would unleash a massive upheaval to immediately topple the Islamic Republic. The January riots were presented to Trump as a preview of what was to come. Western media, including the NY Times and The Guardian, played a central role in legitimizing Israel's deception by falsely characterizing the violent regime change riots as mere protests, massively inflating the death toll and covering up the fact that many were murdered by the Israel-backed rioters themselves The whole of Western media and the Western human rights industrial complex deliberately misrepresented the real character of those riots. But now that the war they helped to instigate is going badly for the US and Israel, that same media is now free to reveal a few kernels of truth.

Of course there is a connection between Israel's crimes against humanity and the rising, frightening tide of antisemitism. Israel's two greatest state projects are its occupation of Palestine and its constant endeavor to create synonymity between "Israeli" and "Jewish". When Israel claims total and eternal impunity, it does so on the basis of being the direct heir of countless Jews who had been persecuted over the centuries. "Never again (for us)", Israel's self-declared mandate for destruction as the only mode of conflict resolution, grows directly from Israeli appropriation of all Jewish pasts, presents and futures. I know this because this is how I was raised, in (what I hope is) the last grand age of discrete winks and awkward silences. We all knew what we were doing to the Palestinians. Many of us thought it was the right thing. Many others thought it was necessary. Any wrongness was neutralized by an overriding sense of urgency. We must be on guard against inevitable plans to destroy us. We must be prepared to assist our gullible, weak brothers in the diaspora (just think of the nerve required to refer to any place but Israel as the "diaspora". How's the connection looking now?). Israelis still consider "revenge" to be a suitable justification for the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people. "We were always polite and proper," say numerous Israelis. "Time we turned lethal". The hypocrisy requires to deny the link between horrific acts of violence against Jews all over the world and Israel's ever-expanding crimes against humanity is astounding.
