I know how politics works in the north because of my experience. The north will not risk their votes for Atiku because Atiku can never beat Tinubu in the south. And also having that Tinubu has failed the north, the chances of voting Peter Obi for one term is high because it gives the north the chance to return to the centre fully via Kwankwaso. If we were a serious country, this kind of act should lead to automatic disqualification for the candidate. Every time, INEC and EFCC talk about how vote buying is illegal, but they never prosecute or seek to disqualify candidates who do this. Because, isn't this voter inducement? Which may also be classified as a form of vote buying. If it wasn't already in the electoral act, it should be included clearly. And I think the punishment should be immediate disqualification btw once it is investigated and traced to any candidate. The annoying part of this situation is that during elections, these kinds of “massive” palliatives usually find their way to the common man. But during the normal, non-election seasons, other palliatives somehow never find their way down to the grassroots. The leaders would rather store it, share it among themselves, or keep it till the next election. This reminds me of that Lagos Politician who shared Covid-19 palliatives at her birthday.
