-Toured a variety of public, private, charter, magnet, and micro schools to empower families and hear from students, teachers, and leaders on best practices in their own communities

A YEAR OF RETURNING EDUCATION TO THE STATES On March 20, 2025, @POTUS signed his Executive Order to return education to the states. In the year since, here’s just some of what we’ve accomplished for American students and families: 🧵⬇️

For too long, federal overreach has failed our students in a one-size-fits-all system. No longer. We are returning power to parents and states to build a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

One year ago, @POTUS tasked me with breaking up the status quo and returning education to the states. Families can take heart knowing the tide is turning in education, and we are working vigorously to forge a stronger future for every student across the nation.

With nearly $1.7 TRILLION in student loan debt, the federal government turned the Department of Education into the 5th largest bank in America. This is rightfully a job for the premier financial agency, @USTreasury.

Let’s take a hard look at the numbers behind America’s student loan debt crisis.

For too long, Americans have shouldered the consequences of poor leadership and persistent mismanagement of our federal student aid portfolio. Today’s actions reclaim integrity and accountability for you, the American people.

Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury and @usedgov announced the Federal Student Assistance Partnership to enhance the administration of Federal student aid programs, mitigate the continuing fallout and cost to taxpayers from the Biden Administration’s mismanagement of the Federal student loan portfolio, and facilitate the return of defaulted borrowers to repayment. Under @POTUS’s leadership we are undertaking the first serious effort to clean up a $1.7 trillion portfolio that has been badly mismanaged for years. Treasury has the unique experience, the operational capability, and the financial expertise to bring long overdue financial discipline to the program and be better stewards of taxpayer dollars.

ED and the @USTreasury announced the Federal Student Assistance Partnership, which will allow Treasury to assume responsibilities for student loan collections and assist in ED’s efforts to help student loan borrowers return to active repayment.

As student loan debt nears $1.7 Trillion, it’s clear that @USEdGov was never intended to serve as our nation’s fifth largest bank. That’s exactly why we are partnering with @USTreasury to restore fiscal sanity and better align student aid programs with students, families and borrowers.

Literacy starts at home.
