WTXL First to Know Weather

Hurricane Erick made landfall in Oaxaca, Mexico this morning as a Category 3 with max sustained winds of 125 mph. It will continue to weaken as it brings heavy rain and gusty winds to the region. No tropical impacts for the Big Bend and South Georgia for at least the next week.

A very powerful Hurricane Erick is making landfall on the Pacific Coast of Mexico as the Atlantic remains calm. Juneteenth starts with lots of sunshine in the Big Bend and South Georgia, but scattered storms that pop later this afternoon return each afternoon this weekend.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING 06/09/2025 ------------------------------ Parts of Berrien, Cook, Lanier, Lowndes, Brooks, and Colquitt counties are under the warning until 2:15 pm EDT. Damaging winds of up to 60 mph are possible.

2 separate severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued until 1:30 pm EDT. Damaging winds up to 60 mph are possible in both. The first is for far northern Jefferson, southeast Thomas, and southern Brooks counties. The second is for north Thomas and southern Colquitt counties.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for northwest Wakulla County until 11:45 am EDT. This includes the neighborhood of Arran. Damaging winds up to 60 mph and penny sized hail are possible. Take shelter indoors.

RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE --------------------------- Tallahassee has broken a daily record high for the second day in a row! The record high temperature for May 17 of 95 degrees set back in 1933 was surpassed by today's high of 96 degrees set at the Tallahassee airport.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued until 4:45 pm EDT for Jefferson County and western parts of Madison and Taylor counties. This includes Monticello, Greenville, and Boyd. Damaging winds up to 60 mph with up to quarter sized hail are possible.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for Leon, Wakulla, Gadsden, Liberty, and parts of Decatur, Grady, and Thomas counties until 4pm EDT. This includes Tallahassee, Quincy, Saint Marks, Thomasville, and Cairo. Damaging winds up to 60 mph and penny sized hail are possible.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Baker, Mitchell, Miller, Seminole, Decatur, and parts of Gadsden, Grady, and Liberty counties until 3pm EDT. Damaging winds up to 60 mph with penny sized hail are possible with this line of storms. The storm is moving east at 40 mph.

TORNADO WATCH in effect until 10 am EDT. This is for the entire Big Bend and South Georgia, excluding Clinch, Echols, Hamilton, Suwannee, and Lafayette counties. Now is the time to leave mobile homes and head to a sturdy shelter for the next few hours!

A new Flash Flood Warning has been issued for parts of Jefferson and Madison Counties until 9:15 pm EDT. A sliver of far northern Taylor County is included. This includes the cities of Madison, Greenville, and most of Jefferson County south of I-10.

Flash Flood Warning including all of Leon County south of I-10, where some of the heaviest rainfall rates in the area are occurring just after 7pm. As much as 3-4" of rain is estimated to have fallen in the past 3 hours, or 6" in the past 12 hours. Turn around don't drown.

SNOW HISTORY IN TALLAHASSEE Last snow was January 3, 2018 with 0.1" Last snowfall of at least 1 inch was 1.0" on December 22-23, 1989, just over 35 years ago. The all-time snowfall record was 2.8" back on February 12-13, 1958. Let's see where Tuesday stacks up!

Increased Snow Totals for the Big Bend and South Georgia! A forecast of 1-2" for Tallahassee would be enough for the largest snowfall accumulation since 1989, when an inch was recorded just before Christmas. Still updates to be made tomorrow, including for ice east of the city!
