Yes, we can decide whether we want our religion to be on our national ID or not. We can even have "Bacon" as our religion like in this picture from the news several years ago. Although majority of Thai are Buddhism and yes we still have some crazy or over religious people-

One difference is that the Thai national ID card has no race or religion marker. Everyone is simply Thai as long as they have Thai citizenship and there are no group-specific laws for different people. There are many ethnic groups and races in Thailand but anyone can become Thai should they’ve direct ancestry or get naturalised! It doesn’t show your place of birth, country of birth, nationality at birth or whether you were naturalised or not.
