In case you missed it, the Trump administration is preparing for more wars. This is sickening. It is tragic. It is dangerous. The Pentagon has opened preliminary talks with major American manufacturers, including General Motors, Ford, GE Aerospace, and Oshkosh, about expanding weapons production and pulling more civilian industry into the military supply chain. The reporting explicitly frames this as a World War II style model, a modern version of the old “Arsenal of Democracy,” where private industry is redirected toward war production. This is not just a random idea that appeared overnight btw. Stephen Feinberg, now one of the key figures inside Trump’s Pentagon, said in his February 25, 2025 Senate confirmation hearing that the government should bring in new companies and specifically said that if the U.S. were to call up “General Motors or Ford” and tell them “We need you in our defense base,” they should be given a shot at new programs. The immediate context is stockpile pressure and a much broader war footing. These talks gained urgency amid weapons strain tied to current conflicts and the administration’s push to expand output of munitions, drones, and tactical hardware beyond the traditional defense contractors. At the same time, Trump has asked for a massive jump in military spending to about $1.5 trillion, with roughly a $500 billion increase, and the White House budget push is being defended as necessary to expand weapons production and build more ships, planes, and drones. The U.S. is already $39 trillion in debt, and under Trump that debt is rising rapidly. The "peace" administration is openly exploring how to turn more of American industry into a larger war production base, and senior officials have already laid the political groundwork for that shift.
