According to The New York Times, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has "temporarily" paused the testing for rabies as well as pox viruses which includes smallpox and mpox. Normally, under sane and competent leadership, the CDC provides assistance to states and local health laboratories that are unable to do the testing on their own. But thanks to the Trump administration's gutting of the CDC through mass layoffs, hiring freezes, and countless resignations, there are simply too few scientists to help with the testing. The rabies and pox teams have been particularly hard hit. The Times reports that, astoundingly, the entire rabies team will be reduced to just one single person with the clinical expertise necessary to advise state and local officials by July. The pox team will have zero. This is what happens with you empower anti-science kooks to run your country. On March 16, 1991, Latasha Harlins was a fifteen-year-old African-American girl who was shot in the head by Soon Ja Du, a fifty-one-year-old female convenience store owner from South Korea, who was tried and convicted of voluntary manslaughter in Harlins' death.
