Indiana Senate Appropriations Chair Ryan Mishler on the $200 million childcare vouchers investment approved today: "Today, the State Budget Committee reviewed a provision that will permit the transfer of an additional $200 million into the Financial Responsibility and Opportunity Growth fund to be used for the Child Care and Development Fund vouchers.   "The Senate kickstarted this funding discussion by unanimously passing Senate Enrolled Act 4 during the 2026 legislative session, which allows the state to spend money from the FROG fund on CCDF. I am pleased to see that the Senate's efforts are paying off, and we will continue to work on this program as we begin to prepare for the 2027 budget session."  @FOX59 | @CBS4Indy

The Indiana State Budget Committee has reviewed a $200 million augmentation for childcare vouchers. The committee will decide whether to approve that request at the end of their meeting. The @FSSAIndiana says pending that approval, new vouchers for an estimated 14,000 kids will start going out in late May. The agency acknowledged that this plan will only supply those new vouchers for one year, and that a long-term commitment from the state is needed to sustain the program. FSSA Secretary Mitch Roob also said he believed the state could not count on additional federal funding for the program moving forward. @FOX59 | @CBS4Indy
