In the days of Noah, Genesis 6:5 tells us, “God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” We read in Genesis 6:11 that “the earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.” Our world today feels eerily reminiscent of this doesn’t it? Five people were killed and several others wounded by a masked man shooting randomly in the streets of Philadelphia—one person killed was just 15 years old. Three dead and eight injured in a Fort Worth parking lot on Monday night. 300 people have been murdered in Chicago so far this year. A culture of drugs, death, and darkness has taken over many communities in our large cities. Without respect for our laws—and most importantly, God’s laws—society as we know it will disintegrate. We are seeing the results of sin allowed to go unchecked. This is a heart problem. Yes, we need the right processes and laws surrounding gun ownership, but the only cure for the heart problem causing the rampant violence is Jesus Christ. He alone can heal and transform the human heart and mind. As our nation has just commemorated our independence, we need to realize and declare our utter dependence upon Almighty God and turn to Him. inquirer.com/news/philadelp…
