As I’ve always said to comrades and to my movement I love so deeply which I call my forever political home that this idea of thinking that we would throw Zuma under the bus as the sole architect of corruption and then magically everything would be fine once he’s gone… that was never going to hold. I’ve been consistent on this: if we don’t confront our internal contradictions and deal honestly with the real or even perceived rot within our own ranks, then we’re just lying to ourselves. And when you lie to yourself, you delay real renewal, real correction, real honesty. Now look… boom. Every other day it’s allegations, scandals, questionable conduct that involve our senior leaders; left, right and centre. It’s exhausting ngoba it confirms exactly what some of us were warning about all along. You can’t build credibility on scapegoating one person for political expediency while sweeping everything else under the carpet. That approach was always going to collapse under its own weight. Hayi shame, iinkokheli zethu… at this rate it feels like they are the ones destroying the very movement of Luthuli, Tambo, Mandela, Sisulu without shame at all.
