Albania in UNESCO

🕊️ Deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Eliot Engel, a distinguished public servant who represented New York in the U.S. House of Representatives for over three decades (1989–2021). A respected figure in American politics, he was also a steadfast and principled supporter of the Albanian cause, and in particular of #Kosova. He was among the strongest voices in Washington supporting the decisive U.S.-led military intervention to stop the ethnic cleansing of Albanians by the forces of the Slobodan Milošević regime. His commitment did not end there; he remained a consistent advocate for Kosova’s independence and international recognition, helping to shape enduring U.S. support. Congressman Engel championed democracy, human rights, and transatlantic values with conviction and clarity. His legacy will endure in the causes he advanced and the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed. May his soul rest in peace.

🇦🇱🇦🇿 I held a productive and forward-looking meeting with H.E. Mr. Anar Huseynov, Ambassador of #Azerbaijan in Albania. We discussed ways to further intensify our political dialogue and reaffirmed our shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, grounded in mutual respect and common interests. The opening of our respective embassies in #Tirana and #Baku marks an important milestone that has given new momentum to our relations. We welcomed this progress and highlighted the importance of sustaining regular high-level exchanges. The #energy sector remains a cornerstone of our partnership, delivering tangible benefits for regional energy security and sustainable development. We also identified strong potential to expand cooperation in connectivity, trade, #tourism, and cultural exchanges. We emphasized the value of continued coordination in regional and international fora, as well as the importance of building practical partnerships that bring our countries and peoples closer together.

Today, I had a first courtesy meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of #Serbia in Tirana, H.E. Slobodan Vukčević. Our discussion focused on advancing bilateral relations in areas of mutual interest, reaffirming the importance of constructive #dialogue and cooperation between our two countries. We emphasized the need to further strengthen economic and trade relations, as well as to make tangible progress in areas that directly benefit our citizens. I stressed the importance of preserving #peace, #security, and #stability in the region, underlining that cooperation in key sectors such as energy, transport, connectivity, and economic development remains essential for enhancing prosperity and improving the well-being of our peoples. A more interconnected and resilient #WesternBalkans is in the shared interest of all. #Albania remains firmly committed to a future of the Western Balkans anchored in the European Union. In this context, I underlined that responsible political discourse is essential: rhetoric that fuels division or incites hate has no place in our common #European path. Instead, we must foster trust, good neighbourly relations, and reconciliation. We acknowledged our diametrally opposite positions on on #Kosovo. I reiterated Albania’s clear and principled stance: the Republic of #Kosova is an independent state, a functioning democracy, and an open society built on equality and the rule of law. Albania strongly supports the EU-facilitated dialogue, which should lead, without delay, to full normalization of relations and mutual recognition, as a key step toward lasting peace and stability in the region. I also underlined the need to ensure that the rights of Albanians in #Presheva, #Bujanovc, and #Medvegja are fully respected and effectively implemented, in line with both national legislation and international standards, while ensuring inclusive socio-economic development. I highlighted that this issue will remain one of my priorities, and that addressing it constructively is essential for building trust, strengthening good neighbourly relations. Advancing regional cooperation and aligning with European values and standards remain the surest path toward sustainable development, stability, and a shared European future.

🇦🇱🇶🇦 It was a pleasure meeting H.E. Jabor bin Ali Al Dosari, #Ambassador of the State of #Qatar to Albania. I conveyed #Albania’s unwavering solidarity with Qatar in the face of security risks and challenges stemming from the escalation with #Iran, and reaffirmed our strong support for its sovereignty. We firmly condemn any violations that threaten its peace and stability. We underlined that the Strait of #Hormuz is a key maritime passage, an international waterway where freedom of navigation must be preserved in line with international law. Safeguarding this principle remains essential for global stability, energy security, and international trade. We reaffirmed the strength of our bilateral ties, built on high-level exchanges and expanding cooperation across key sectors, including transport, energy and agriculture. We highly value Qatar’s solidarity and support when it has mattered most, and remain committed to further strengthening this partnership, grounded in a shared vision for regional stability and sustainable prosperity. #AlbaniaQatar

🇦🇱🇪🇺 Our tour across #Albania: “EU and You: Europe Starts at Home”, continues and the discussions and exchanges with young people are becoming ever more engaging. Today, together with my colleague @APirdeni, we met with the generation that will shape Albania’s European future in #Durrës, the students of #NaimFrashëri High School and the students of #AleksandërMoisiu University. We were pleased to respond to their vivid interest and thoughtful questions on reforms, expectations, advantages, and Albania’s image, as well as their role in building a modern, #European Albania, demonstrating maturity, clarity, and ambition. This meeting confirmed once more that Albania’s path toward the #European Union is inseparable from the energy, vision, and commitment of its youth—a strong guarantee of an irreversible European future for our country.

I expressed my sincere appreciation for Hungary’s consistent and valuable support for #Albania’s EU accession process, its constructive role in advancing the EU #enlargement agenda in the #WesternBalkans, and its continued sharing of expertise through capacity-building initiatives. We welcome Hungarian investments in telecommunications, banking, transportation, renewable energy, and defense innovation, and reaffirm our commitment to further diversifying and strengthening this partnership throughout 2026. Our discussion focused on concrete ways to deepen bilateral cooperation, enhance economic ties in every aspect.

E kam ndjekur me vëmendjen më të madhe shqetësimin e shprehur dhe kërkesën e drejtë dhe legjitime të studentëve shqiptarë në Maqedoninë e Veriut për dhënien e provimit në #gjuhën shqipe. Përdorimi i gjuhës #amëtare është një e drejtë themelore, e garantuar nga #Kushtetuta e #Maqedonisë së Veriut dhe Ligji për Përdorimin e #Gjuhëve, e cila nuk mund dhe nuk duhet të ngushtohet apo vonohet nga asnjë procedurë. Nëse procedurat rezultojnë të mangëta apo të paqarta, është detyrim institucional që të gjenden zgjidhje të drejta dhe të qëndrueshme. Kjo është një çështje që kërkon trajtim të matur dhe të përgjegjshëm, larg çdo përpjekjeje për #politizim. Ajo duhet adresuar me seriozitet institucional dhe në frymën e respektimit të të drejtave themelore. #Demokracitë jo vetëm që kanë mekanizmat, por edhe pjekurinë e nevojshme për të gjetur zgjidhje ku harmonizohen shteti ligjor, legjislacioni dhe të drejtat e qytetarëve. #Studentët meritojnë përgëzim për angazhimin qytetar dhe mënyrën demokratike me të cilën kanë artikuluar kërkesën e tyre. We emphasize that the only official website for Albanian electronic visa applications, to which you should refer, is: e-visa.al MEFA calls on citizens and all interested parties to exercise maximum caution and to rely exclusively on official sources for applications and information, in order to avoid any potential misuse. Cybersecurity authorities and law enforcement bodies are taking measures to block any illegal activity, as well as to identify and prosecute those responsible in accordance with the applicable legislation. The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs is closely following this matter with a view to taking all necessary measures.

Pleased to meet with Ms. Ingrid Macdonald, #UN Resident Coordinator in Albania, and to exchange views on #Albania’s strong and longstanding cooperation with the United Nations across a broad range of shared priorities. I expressed my appreciation for the important role the UN #CountryTeam in advancing Albania’s reform and development agenda, including through the forthcoming UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, which is closely aligned with our EU #accession path. Special focus is placed on our collaboration in key areas such as human capital development, social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and youth empowerment, particularly in the context of Albania’s upcoming Voluntary National Review in July. Albania remains firmly committed to multilateralism and to working closely with the United Nations system, contributing actively to global and regional efforts in support of peace, security, #sustainable development, and the protection of #humanrights.

🇦🇱🇯🇵 I had the pleasure of meeting with the Ambassador of Japan to Albania, H.E. Ms. Kikuko Kato. The relationship between #Albania and #Japan is rooted in friendship, shared values of democracy and preservation of rules-based international order. We recognised the need to further strengthen our political dialogue, enhance high-level exchanges, and deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including economic development, investment, and people-to-people ties. I expressed our sincere appreciation for Japan's continued support to Albania, particularly in infrastructure projects, education, and post-earthquake reconstruction. We agreed to explore every opportunity and build on the excellent bilateral relations, with the aim of working together towards a stronger, more dynamic, and future-oriented #partnership.

🇦🇱🇷🇴 A warm and constructive first phone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Oana-Silvia Țoiu @oana_toiu. We reaffirmed the very good, stable, and friendly relations between #Albania and #Romania, as well as our shared commitment to further strengthening our partnership for the benefit of our countries and peoples. I expressed my sincere appreciation for Romania’s continued support for Albania’s EU accesssion, and reiterated our readiness to work closely together to enhance regional cooperation, promote stability, and advance the #European perspective of the #WesternBalkans. We also discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation in education and culture, while emphasizing the need to further expand economic and trade exchanges and unlock the full potential of our economic partnership. This year, Romania is chairing important regional initiatives, including the Central European Initiative and the South-East European Cooperation Process. Albania supports the priorities of Romania’s Chairmanship, notably EU integration, connectivity, social resilience, and youth, and looks forward to working closely together to advance our common regional agenda.

I had a very useful meeting with a delegation from the #Romanian Senate’s Committee on Legal Affairs, Appointments, Discipline, Immunities and Validations. As #Albania advances resolutely on its path toward accession to the European Union, Romania remains a strong and reliable partner, whose experience and steadfast commitment are invaluable to our reform efforts and accession process. In this regard, the exchange of experience and best practices—particularly in areas such as the rule of law, judicial reform, and alignment with the EU #acquis—continues to be of great importance. #Inter-parliamentary cooperation is a key pillar of our bilateral relations. Further enhancing #parliamentarydiplomacy, including through closer dialogue between committees and the sharing of institutional expertise, can provide a strong impetus to deepen Albania–Romania cooperation and bring our partnership to an even higher level. 🇦🇱🇷🇴
