While you were sleeping, Senators Thune (R), Schmitt (R), Moreno (presiding) (R), Schatz (D), and Kim (D) passed the amended DHS funding bill (TSA, FEMA, etc.) by voice vote while setting new FY2026 appropriations to $0 for key enforcement pieces: mainly ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations and CBP's "Border Security Operations" under U.S. Customs and Border Protection. They removed key parts of the border patrol funding, focusing on stripping “between ports of entry”, which is the heart of CBP enforcement. This includes overtime, between ports of entry, patrols, interdictions, field operations, related surveillance & response activities, on top of just shredding ICE. The amendment explicitly makes the entire contents printed under the heading “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement” in the explanatory statement table have no force or effect. (The Big Beautiful Bill will cover some of this through 2029.) You might be thinking “but Josie, five senators is not a quorum, that sounds unconstitutional!” Correct. The Senate acts under the presumption of quorum unless somebody specifically “raises a point of no quorum”. Obviously, they can count and 5 is nowhere near 51. They knew they were acting in bad faith when they weakened enforcement funding and refused to provide the new top-up for the guys arresting the foreign pedophiles. Five senators sacrificed our country’s security to the alter of Democrat Wokeness, in hopes that none of them may have to miss their spring holiday. We all Schoolhouse Rock. The amended Senate bill goes back to the House, to either be passed (and sent to the President) or amended again (and sent back to the Senate). What a shitshow. Their vacation isn’t set the start until Monday. Have they adjourned early without passing The SAVE America Act? Who the hell knows at this point. I guess we’ll find out today. But now, I’m more worried than ever that The Senate will betray us again in the dead of night with a bipartisan knock off quorum, but this time, with the SAVE America Act.

I’m pissed! Trump gave Iran a pause on strikes against their energy infrastructure until April 6. So what did Israel do?

They bombed all three of Iran’s largest steel plants simultaneously, which are crucial to their economy And if that wasn’t enough, they also struck Iran’s Khondab heavy-water reactor facility as well as uranium production and uranium-conversion sites All on the same day Why did Israel do this? And was it in coordination with the U.S.? If it’s in coordination, it means Trump lied to Iran. If not, than Israel is lying. If you take into account the report today that JD Vance yelled at Netanyahu over the phone this week, upset at being dragged into the war by misleading intelligence, then I think you have your answer Israel seems to be trying to sabotage these negotiations, and it serves their interests to do so.
Mario Nawfal@MarioNawfal

UPDATE: I’m really struggling to call what happens next On one hand, Trump needs an off-ramp to limit the global economic damage and growing domestic political pressure Iran would also like this war to end before more cities are leveled and more leaders are killed On the other hand, Iran is doing surprisingly well controlling the Strait, striking the Gulf and Israel, and selling oil for more than twice the price than before the war, making a killing And on the American side, troops are heading to the region for what increasingly looks like a ground operation to control Hormuz Negotiations are the most promising development since February 28th. But Iran's warnings to Gulf nations against supporting any ground operation, combined with maximalist demands from both sides, make a deal unlikely in the short term

Take a minute and listen…California is functionally bankrupt. You can’t tax your way out of it. A California bankruptcy will wash over to all the states as they will be paying for the bailout.
Molly O’Shea@MollySOShea

BREAKING: David @friedberg says "California is functionally bankrupt" "People don't realize how screwed California is, & I worry that if California falls, so does the union. "$250 billion to $1 trillion short." "This is because for California to get rescued would be a big cost to red states, & I think it creates in the years ahead a lot of tension." "California's functional bankruptcy is a major risk to the country. & I think we need to figure out what we can change to fix it." How we got here: "California has a public pension system, & that public pension system retirees have paid into it & they get some benefits out, & the amount that they're owed back out is somewhere between $250 billion - $1 trillion dollars more than has been paid in. $250 billion to $1 trillion short. If it was the federal government, it would be like, okay, we'll just print more money. California doesn't have the ability to print money, so California has to pay this out, and you can't restructure retirement benefits. There is a Supreme Court case in California that said that once an employee has been offered retirement benefits, even if they're currently an employee, you can never restructure their retirement benefits. It has to stay forever, and the state cannot declare bankruptcy. There's no way for the state to functionally declare bankruptcy. There's no law to allow it. No state has ever declared bankruptcy, and the retirement benefits sit senior to the bonds in California. So you have to pay out the retirement benefits before you pay out all the bond holders that have loaned California the money that they use to run all their programs and services."
