A historic day for Ladakh. I have approved the notification for creation of five new districts in Ladakh, fulfilling the aspirations and long pending demand of the people of Ladakh. With creation of five new districts - Nubra, Sham, Changthang, Zanskar and Drass - Ladakh will now have seven districts, from existing two. The development is aligned with Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed & prosperous Ladakh. This transformative decision, already approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs in August 2024, under the leadership of Hon’ble Minister of Home Affairs, Shri @AmitShah ji, would strengthen grassroots governance, decentralise administration & ensures faster delivery of public services to the people of Ladakh, especially those in remote & far-flung areas. Creation of new districts, apart from bringing governance closer to citizens, will create new avenues for growth, employment & entrepreneurship. I reaffirm my commitment to ensuring that every citizen of Ladakh benefits from this historic decision, as we move together towards a brighter, stronger & more prosperous future.

It gives me great pleasure in sharing that Hon'ble Union Home Minister, Shri @AmitShah ji will be arriving in Leh on 30th April for a two day visit. On 1st May, he will pay his respects to the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha on the occassion of Buddh Purnima and share his thoughts on the spiritual significance of the sacred exposition being held in Ladakh from 1-14 May. His visit underscores the commitment of Government of India for the development of Ladakh.

Administrative Secretary, Public Works (R&B) and Information & Public Relations, UT Ladakh, Shri @BaseerUlHaqIAS today chaired a meeting to review and finalize the Annual Action Plan under the State Development Plan (SDP)/State Sector Plan for the financial year 2026–27.

To give a major boost to the tourism sector in Ladakh, I have approved major reforms related to “Ease of Doing Business”, aimed at deregulating the hospitality sector, reducing compliance burden on stakeholders and creating a unified, streamlined, and citizen-friendly registration mechanism for tourism units. Requirement of documents like character certificate, requisite bank balance and educational qualification for tour operators, have been removed, making the process easier and transparent. These reforms would liberalise and rationalise the cumbersome process of registration of Hotels, Home stays and Tour Operators in Ladakh and enhance the validity of their registration, thereby, enabling a regime that is free from archaic regulations and undue bureaucratic interference. The reforms, guided by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s dictum of “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance”, would create a safe and secure atmosphere for tourists, expand the tourism industry and contribute significantly to strengthen local economy.

Shocked to learn of the sudden passing of Ambassador P. Stobdan, whom I had met just a few days ago. A candid, forthright and erudite diplomat, he carried the wisdom of the world in his heart. May God give strength and fortitude to the bereaved family in this hour of grief.
