Hey everyone! Professional dog trainer and certified animal behaviourist here! This is absolutely a very precious Great Dane puppy. But let's talk about the thing everyone is confused about... His ears. Ear cropping is a surgical procedure that involves cutting away the outer pieces of the ear (called the pinna) to remove the floppy bits. The remaining cartilage gets forced upwards using tape, bandages, and flat wood as support (similar to thick popcicle sticks). A process that is called "posting". Ear cropping today is almost entirely done for aesthetic purposes, and there is absolutely no health benifits to doing it. It had originated for breeds that were expected to face injury. Dogs used in dog fighting (which is now illegal) and less nerfarious things such as livestock guardian dogs. Think of it like "No capes!" except the cape is two pieces of long floppy skin attached to the animal... Do you know the breed Doberman Pinscher? The beautiful "Anubis" looking dogs? Well... What if I was to tell you they too are born with beautiful floppy ears! Pitbulls and other bully breeds are all born with floppy ears. Dogo Argentino, Cane Corso, Mastiffs, and even Schnauzers are all dog breeds that are born with floppy ears but commonly get them cropped. Ear cropping and tail docking are almost one in the same. There are MANY dog breeds that get their tails docked as well! HOWEVER tail docking has more reasons behind it than just dog fighting and aesthetics that humans place on animals. But that's a whole other topic... I'm personally heavily against ear cropping, unless there's a medical reason that it had to be done in the first place, which is HIGHLY unlikely. It doesn't help prevent ear infections. That's a myth. Anyone who is comfortable doing, what is essentially, cosmetic surgery to their dog, while at the same time not being comfortable neutering their dog, shouldn't have a dog. Ear cropping is slowly becoming outlawed in may vet practices. Please love your animals for how they are, and not how you want them to be perceived. @DanGuy96 @Exalted_Speed It was the tone with a lot of the characters, this whole “No, this is cool. You’re an idiot for not thinking this is a good thing.” It’s an Adam who proves he’s a hero without a sword but still thinks being a barbarian hero is awesome.

I’m trying to be careful here but in general no. Like it wasn’t a mainstream hit and a lot of the fandom for it is driven by very vocal fandom types, if it was super big I think we would have seen more cartoons like it on Netflix alone.

@DanGuy96 @Exalted_Speed For Voltron the rumors everyone hates it stem from a VoltCon panel where Bob Koplar, when discussing working with Dreamworks and Universal about the movie, said DW “did not get Voltron.” The actors said the movie was about Voltron, and that it doesn’t skimp on the robot fights.

@DanGuy96 @Exalted_Speed And that box set is still a bare-bones release. SPOP didn't even get that much (although part of me suspects Mattel doesn't want them to release it in any capacity). And that show is dogged by the rumors that everyone involved in the movie hates it.

@Beatman1 @Exalted_Speed Wanna know how bad it got? Voltron Legendary Defender got a full series DVD box set before Nu-Ra ever did…. and the latter still doesn’t have a full series.

@Wheeljack83 Good question, although in Amazon's case since their primary revenue driver is advertising (specifically getting people to buy stuff on Amazon) I imagine a lot of it based on the ad rates and how much traffic Amazon.com gets.

@Beatman1 Just sounds rather nebulous. How do you even measure the streaming revenue of a movie like this.

With the toys apparently selling well and the fairly positive audience, I do believe this is a big level set meant to be a new base for the franchise after a lot of recent missteps and Amazon expects to make it up on the back end.

@Wheeljack83 Streaming revenue, riders for the merch that are presumably baked into the licensing agreement, and similar things of that nature.

@Beatman1 Amazon doesn’t own the toy license though. That’s Mattel. Where is all that back end coming from?

@kevinbolk @Cranberryscause I fully expect this to blow up on streaming, but it’s easier to get the crew to a comedy.

I seriously don’t understand what’s going on with this movie. As I unfortunately predicted, it’s not doing well at the box office and yet the PREORDER for the 4K Blu-ray is the #1 seller in movies & TV on Amazon, both critics and audience reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, and the merchandise is selling out everywhere. I kind of feel like I’m being gaslit here, to be honest.

Oh God, here we go again… I’m pretty sure this confirms Prime Video is getting the Energon Universe. But I question the wisdom after the movie and the comic Kickstarter BARELY cracked $100k.
