Last month, we celebrated two key moments in Ward 8—the ribbon-cutting at Anacostia Rec at Ketcham and the groundbreaking at Douglass Community Center. These facilities represent kept promises—and reflect of our ongoing investments in the nation's #1 park and rec system.

Residents are encouraged to shovel and clear sidewalks, steps and walkways today to help prevent ice and reduce risk of slips and falls.

DC is making sure every young person has a safe and fun place to celebrate Halloween. From costume parades & haunted houses to trick-or-treating & the monster tennis smash— @DCDPR is the place to be for holiday fun all weekend long.

141,000 DC residents rely on SNAP and 12,500 rely on WIC to put food on the table each month. We are moving forward to ensure we take care of DC residents by authorizing the use of local funds for November payments. We were hopeful it wouldn't come this. We need the federal government to reopen as soon as possible.

Getting ready for Halloween means more than just deciding your costume. Make a plan to get home safely after your Halloween celebrations—rely on public transit, rideshare, or a trusted friend. Remember: Sober driving saves lives.

We all have a role to play in making sure our trick-or-treaters have a fun, safe Halloween. Remember: Slow down, come to a complete stop at crosswalks and stop signs, and be patient. Let's all work together to keep our littlest Washingtonians safe!
