We lost a thousand fixed wing aircraft over Vietnam and another thousand helicopters. During the Gulf War, a total of 75 coalition aircraft were lost, including 44 that were lost to enemy fire. Losing a couple aircraft during an intense aerial campaign against a hostile foreign power that has been stockpiling air defenses for decades is to be expected. It’s unfortunate, it’s terrible for these aircrews and their families, but it’s war. It’s never bloodless. It absolutely is not “catastrophic” for American forces. “Catastrophic” losses are what the Iranians have experienced, with their air forces having been completely neutralized.

There is nothing catastrophic about one plane being shot down in 5 weeks of operations against a supposed regional powerhouse, with one member of the crew already rescued as the US has created such aerial dominance it can fly into Irans airspace and extract a downed pilot.

When you fly 1000s of missions with modern fighter jets around the clock for weeks at a time, you lose planes. You lose planes to mechanical difficulties, to enemy fire, and or friendly fire. That is a reality. The Israeli & US Air Force have done a spectacular job.

I have long described the death of mainstream media credibility as a suicide. The intentional bias and misinformation cost them trust that can’t be easily recovered. People started seeking alternate sources a a result. The problem is that many of those sources have even fewer standards. Eventually it will also catch up to them for the very same reasons. When many of the figures in Podcastan are constantly interviewing the same 15 guests because the all push the same false narratives and dishonest claims (many fused from foreign propaganda efforts), the audiences will eventually reach the same conclusions about their credibility. The problem is that then people increasingly feel like they can’t trust anyone. Which will lead more people to simply tune things out completely and we will end up with a public that’s less informed overall. Or actively misinformed.
