I still think people sleep on how impressive (and insane) full-time YouTubers are...
Creators who run a successful $1m+ a year channel are like a swiss-army knife of skills.
Just imagine someone posted a job for a ‘YouTuber’ and these were the roles and responsibilities listed:
- On-screen talent and filming videos
- Scriptwriting and structuring videos
- Idea generation for the entire channel
- Creative vision for all videos
- Editing videos / managing edit team
- Quality control for all content
- Logistics of all productions
- Community management
- Email and calendar management
- Managing creative team
- Hiring and firing creative team
- Payroll for creative team
- Negotiating brand deals
- Researching other business opportunities
- Tax and money management
And I've probably missed some...
Successful creators are often talent + CEO + COO all in one.
I’m not saying this should be some sort of badge of honour, creators need to get better at delegation.
Many do have a bigger team behind them these days...
Even with that though, a whole new skillset is required. managing people, being responsible for others etc.
It's a tough and impressive job.
Yet a lot of the mainstream narrative of YouTubers is still ‘silly kid running around with camera’.
With each year though that narrative changes.
The new-gen of creators are here and they are operating on another level.
