I hope you realize that you’re being distracted. In an election where the incumbent is running, the only thing we should be discussing is whether you are better off today than you were 3 years ago. Anything else is a distraction. Have you noticed how the narrative continues to evolve? First, it was: “He doesn’t have structure. “The North won’t accept him.” “He needs to build bridges.” Now it is: "Unholy alliance." “He can’t win anyway.” “They’ll rig him out.” “Don’t waste your time.” Same objective. Different messaging. Which brings me to a critical question: "Why is one candidate constantly the focus of coordinated doubt?" Peter Obi has said it himself that there are deliberate efforts to keep him out of the race. What is so special about him that they do not want him to run? If stopping him completely doesn’t work, the next best strategy is psychological: Don’t fight the candidate. Break the voters. Make them feel it’s pointless and the election is already decided. Tell them that their vote won’t count. Once people believe that, they won’t show up. And when people don’t show up, they get to write whatever result they want.” This isn’t new. It’s a known strategy. Voter apathy is more powerful than opposition. So before you repeat the next narrative you see online, pause and ask yourself: Is this informing me or conditioning me? Because in the end, if you decide enough is enough, no one can stop you.

I agree with most of your assertions, @SirJarus, but I’d rate the ADC coalition’s opportunity lower at ✍🏼✍🏼30-35%. The current political climate and the caliber of players now involved mean 2027 will not be the issues-based election of 2023, where money and the full power of incumbency weren’t yet leveraged at the polls the way they will be this time. This is going to be an uphill battle. The same energy that turned out massive votes across battleground states in 2023 is unfortunately now being spent burning bridges within the opposition. Amaechi as Buhari’s campaign DG (with the Rivers State treasury behind him) is not the same dynamic as the ADC trying to unseat a battle-hardened APC. Power rotation remains a powerful undercurrent that many are choosing to overlook. Whether Atiku wins or loses any primaries doesn’t materially change the odds of unseating APC and here’s why: 👉🏾 Money, not issues, will decide outcomes on both sides. 👉🏾 The moral high ground of 2023 has been polluted by unholy alliances. 👉🏾 2023 turnout was crystallized by raw anti-government rage (Buhari’s draconian policies + post-EndSARS fury). That specific fuel has dissipated (people can choose to argue this). 👉🏾 Top-ticket players have been too focused on presidential horse-trading and “political analysis paralysis” instead of building grassroots brand awareness in the localities that actually decide elections. 👉🏾 LP captured 12+ states purely on disaffection with Buhari-era governance. In just the last 9 months APC has already planted seeds (captured SS/SE govt houses) to reverse those gains and their ground game has visibly improved. 👉🏾 Northern politics is an economy. They welcome any credible coalition of serious political spenders and are unlikely to sacrifice 2031 prospects on the altar of good-governance campaigns. Know this and have peace! Bottom-ticket reality check 👉🏾 APC in 2015 swept 225 of 360 House seats by engineering outcomes with ruthless focus. 👉🏾 LP + NNPP + PDP combined only managed ~180 seats in 2023, nowhere near majority control. 👉🏾 APC today already controls 207 House seats, effectively closing the door on any Electoral Act amendments that could have created a level playing field. You’re right that the ADC still has regional pull (Atiku/RMK in the North, PO in SE/SS/NC/SW) and residual anti-APC sentiment on the streets. But the structural headwinds and an incumbency now “with a sharp cutlass,” evolved politicians who won’t be caught off-guard again, PDP as potential 3rd-force appendage, and the North’s 2031 calculus, all make this a heavier lift than 40-45%. Still… 10 months is a very long time in Nigerian politics. Please no insults, contribute intellectually! Just my raw perspective as of today’s political climate.

First, tax laws were forged behind closed doors. Now, the Electoral Act amendment vote that shapes your future is being manipulated in plain sight. When power stops fearing consequences, citizens pay the price. This is institutional contempt for you.

A House of Reps committee has confirmed that key provisions of Nigeria’s new tax laws were illegally altered after parliamentary approval. Yet, Bola Tinubu and Taiwo Oyedele are pushing ahead to implement Nigeria’s first forged tax law.

In October 2022, 4 months before #NigeriaDecides2023, then Attorney-General of Abia State, Uche Ihediwa, SAN, initialled a settlement with a company called Ziplon Concept Ltd, granting the company payment in the sum of N3.923 billion supposedly for consultancy services rendered in securing the #ParisClub debt refund to the State. This was 24% of the N16.346 billion received by the state from @NigeriaGov for the refund. But this was not all. The settlement also obliged the state to set aside N830m in Naira & $11.325m in USD towards contingent liabilities which cld arise from other litigation on the same refund. If those did not materialize, the money wld also be available to be gobbled up by Ziplon. Additionally, Abia State was to pay 5% of the commission - a sum amounting to nearly N200m - to a known friend & front of Mr. Ihediwa, one Chibuzo Aguocha, "as a professional fees (sic) for mediating this agreement." This was a crime against the Abia people & this is not my opinion. 4 yrs earlier, Sunday Aladetoyinbo, a judge of @fcthighcourt, had said as much when he discovered that there were 4 such cases claiming 24% commission each against @NG_AbiaState for the same #ParisClubRefund. The entire goal of the scheme & scam was to ensure that the people of Abia State received no benefit from the Paris Club debt refund. Justice Aladetoyinbo said this was evidence of high level fraud against the state & asked the Attorney-General to consolidate the cases & report the fraud to law enforcement. The judge cld hardly have thought or believed that an Attorney-General cld be part of such a scheme against his own people. They waited for Aladetoyinbo to retire from the FCT High Court in 2019, then stole the case file to another judge, Charles Agbaza, of the same FCT High Court who quickly facilitated the crime. The records are shocking beyond belief... What do you think - should we (not) report Mr. Chidi Ihediwa to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee LPDC, & Charles Agbaza to @njcNig.

There was once a man who was chosen to watch over a village. When he started, he spoke softly. Very humble. He greeted the elders with both hands. He walked the dusty roads and complained about the same heat as everyone else. People said, “At least he knows us well. He is one of us.” A few years later, the man left the village square and entered the king’s house. His chair became higher. His voice became louder. His footsteps no longer touched dust. One day, he returned to the village and gathered everyone. He said to them: “I am no longer who I was,” he said proudly. “I am bigger now. Stronger now. More vicious now. My household lacks nothing. If anything must be built, we can build it.” The people clapped. Drums were beaten. Some shouted his praise. But an old woman sitting under a tree shook her head. She did that because she noticed something strange. The wells were still dry. The school roof still leaked. The clinic still had no light or medical supplies. The road leading to the village was still in terrible condition. Yet the man kept talking about his size. She muttered to the child beside her, “When a man grows taller than the village, he stops providing shade. He only blocks the sun.” In that village, leadership slowly changed in meaning. Power stopped being a service and became a personal achievement. The people were no longer being fed; they were being impressed. Poverty remained, but pride was doing press conferences. And the saddest part? The villagers began to believe that a leader’s success was the same as their own. So they cheered louder, even as their hands stayed empty. Ink don finish. Story don end. A teacher once gathered young men in a village and said, “You say you want to work. You say you want to grow. You say you want to feed your families.” The people nodded. Then the teacher gave them sandals and said, “With these, you can move faster.” But he did not give them books. He did not teach them a skill. He did not give them land to farm or tools to build. So the people rejoiced and celebrated over the sandals. They wore them proudly. They defended the teacher anytime someone asked questions. After a few years, their sandals were worn out. Nothing had changed. They were still begging at the same junctions, just arriving faster. Meanwhile, the teacher sent his own children to distant lands to learn how the world works. When they returned, they did not wear sandals. They rode horses and sat in high places, ruling over the same people who once celebrated footwear. And the teacher said to the people, “Show gratitude always. Now is the time to support my children as they sit on the throne. Did I not give you sandals?” INALEGWU.

One of the most effective tools of oppressive systems in Africa, including in bodies like CAF, is delayed justice. You are told: don’t protest, follow procedure, file a complaint. But by the time the process ends, the outcome has already taken effect. We see it in football. During the Senegal incident, some people are arguing teams should play on and complain later. Yet trophies are awarded before any ruling arrives, and there is no replay. We see the same pattern in politics and elections. Go to court, people are told. By the time judgment comes, power has already settled. This is not a failure of systems. It is how corrupt systems protect themselves . Delayed justice creates the appearance of order while denying real accountability. Many Africans have seen this pattern play out. You probably have an example.

You’re right about the events but the court didn’t order a retrial. The court voided the conviction because the judge that sentenced him at high court level had been promoted to appeal court level at the time he gave the judgement. EFCC wanted to retry him but Kalu’s lawyers argued that it would constitute double jeopardy. This means he told the court that since he was already convicted of the charges, he can’t be tried on the same charges a second time. And at the very same time, he was holding on to the fact that the conviction was done by a judge who was promoted, so void. Crazy happening.

This is so funny. He is acting as if this was a small technical glitch at a bank which was fixed. You are admitting that the Nigerian police is engaged in theft, fraud, extortion and kidnapping. You can’t just tweet out DPO has been sanctioned and money refunded as if this was a normal thing. Why is this part of police culture? Why is that DPO not facing charges in a court? You can’t just return his money and want him and Nigerians to move on. This is not a PR issue. It is a criminal matter. The whole world is reading this. You cannot present yourselves as normalising criminal behaviour and expect anyone to take Nigeria seriously.

If this kind of propaganda now passes for “strategic thinking” around the Presidency, then Nigeria’s problem is not the opposition; it is the quality of minds whispering to power. Bayo Onanuga isn’t critiquing Peter Obi; he’s manufacturing a villain and attacking the caricature he created. First, the “bitterness” narrative. Labeling Obi as “bitter,” “wandering,” or “homeless” is lazy spin. None of it engages policy, governance outcomes, or real electoral facts. Second, Calling Obi an “abysmal failure” is intellectually dishonest. This is someone who consistently ranked among Nigeria’s better-performing governors and was publicly recognised for fiscal discipline, improved health outcomes, and responsible governance. People don’t receive those kinds of recognitions by failing. Then Onanuga mocks Obi for citing books, professors, and global examples while praising Tinubu for foreign partnerships and investments. Meanwhile, the only regular foreign trips Nigerians hear about from the Presidency are “private” or “medical.” So where exactly is this supposed school of leadership Tinubu graduated from? And the obsession with Obi becoming Atiku’s running mate is telling. You claim he’s irrelevant, yet you can’t stop talking about him. Your words dismiss him, but your thinking betrays you. The fear is louder than the propaganda. In short: If I were President, I wouldn’t be impressed but I’d be worried. Because when the people paid to communicate on your behalf start sounding this shallow, the problem is no longer the opposition. It’s the house itself.
Bayo Onanuga, OON, CON@aonanuga1956

I watched as Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, formally joined the ADC after abandoning the party he had used to pursue his ill-fated presidential ambition. About three years after the 2023 election, Obi, the wandering politician — who moved from APGA to PDP to Labour and now ADC — still sounded bitter about coming third. He continues to claim he was robbed of victory, even though empirical analyses of the poll showed he could not have won and was fortunate to even emerge third because of the anomalous polling figures recorded for him in his South East region. At his event, Obi’s bitterness was evident. What concerned me most were his references to books, professors, and other nations to buttress his belief that he has learnt from the masters and that Nigeria should be entrusted to him because he claims to know the secrets of national development. This posturing should be taken with a pinch of salt, coming from a politician who was an abysmal failure in a small state like Anambra, which he governed for 8 years. Because Obi sorely lacks the leadership pedigree, beyond being a successful importer, only the madman he consults in Onitsha would be comfortable handing over Nigeria to him. However, Obi’s reasoning is flawed. Nations are not identical, and what worked in Indonesia or the USA may not necessarily work in Nigeria. No leader can move a country forward by simply copying and pasting models from elsewhere. Nations require original thinkers, not copycats. Homegrown solutions are essential for proper development. This is precisely what President Bola Tinubu has been doing since May 29, 2023—a fact that Obi is too consumed by animosity and his small-mindedness to acknowledge. In less than three years, the Tinubu administration has restructured the economy, eliminated wasteful petrol subsidies, and reduced its dependence on the oil sector. The administration is focusing on gas development and has attracted both foreign and local investment to the industry. Foreign reserves have risen, and the exchange rate has stabilised. Inflation is decelerating. The administration has also embarked on ambitious road projects, such as the Lagos-Calabar and Sokoto-Badagry superhighways, which Obi and his associates consider impossible. With tax reforms beginning in January, the Tinubu administration is set to harmonise the historically fragmented tax regime, increase the tax-to-GDP ratio, enhance revenue, and boost prosperity. For the past two years and seven months, Tinubu has demonstrated effective leadership anchored in strategic policies and reforms. Obi is so blind that he cannot see all these achievements, as he jumped from Labour to ADC, where he will play second fiddle and end up being Atiku’s running mate in 2027, like we witnessed in 2019.
