“Six hospitality venues are closing every single day.” Thank you @JeromeMayhew for raising the scale of business closures in the sector this year. We need a hospitality-wide solution on business rates to prevent closures escalating further.

One thing Rachel Reeves didn't mention in her delusional, self -congratulatory speech in the @HouseofCommons today was that as a consequence of her economic ineptitude, unemployment will increase by 100,000 MORE than the high levels already forecast in her November Budget!

Today, in the Spring Statement, the Chancellor has a chance to change course. Businesses need real support — from lower business rates to action on energy costs — to protect jobs and drive growth. Without it, we risk higher unemployment and a slower economy.

With the Spring Statement this week, this is my 6 point plan to revive the UKs Hospitality sector...THREAD: The reduction in VAT coming out of COVID was a lifeline for the sector and should be reinstated at 13%. This would allow the UK to compete with many European countries where average rates are around 9%. Ultimately, 13% of revenue for the exchequer, is better than 20% of nothing, which is a shut business (to say nothing of the lost PAYE/NI/Business Rates/Corp Tax).
