He stated that North Korea operates uranium enrichment facilities in Yongbyon, Kusong and Kangson, citing a recent IAEA Board meeting and Director General Rafael Grossi. Critics link the incident to broader accumulated discord in the South Korea-U.S. alliance under the current Lee Jae-myung administration, which many describe as more pro-China than its predecessor. Observers point to perceived hesitancy in fully aligning with U.S. pressure on Beijing, differences over joint military exercises, sanctions enforcement and strategic flexibility regarding regional contingencies.
