🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Happy St. David's Day. Before Wales had theatres, it had audiences. In the 6th century, St. David gathered crowds in fields and on hillsides to hear him speak. Churches were too small, so stories were told outdoors, shaped by rhythm, voice and gesture so everyone could follow. That tradition continued through the bards and storytellers who carried the tales of the Mabinogion, holding communities together through shared listening. So today we’re not only celebrating our patron saint, but the roots of Welsh storytelling itself. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus. Cyn i Gymru gael theatrau, roedd ganddi gynulleidfaoedd. Yn y 6ed ganrif, casglodd Dewi Sant dyrfaoedd mewn caeau ac ar lethrau’r mynyddoedd i'w glywed yn siarad. Roedd eglwysi'n rhy fach, felly adroddwyd straeon yn yr awyr agored, wedi'u llunio gan rythm, llais ac ystum fel y gallai pawb ddilyn. As the Our Town company makes its way south to the @Rosetheatre, here’s a little throwback to when the cast first got their costumes for the very first time ahead of opening at @SwanseaGrand. Last night I was at this extraordinary piece of theatrical magic.@michaelsheen and cast created moments that will remain with me. Mr T.Wilder would surely have loved this interpretation of his opus. I was moved and challenged and the world has felt a little more tender today.
