Building nuclear means advancing multiple pieces of work at once, and Oklo has been busy. Over the past year, we moved from planning to execution: construction began @INL for Aurora-INL in Idaho, key partners like @Kiewit and @Siemens_Energy were locked in, fuel milestones were cleared, a fuel recycling facility was unveiled in Tennessee, and advanced our Radioisotopes Pilot Facility in Texas. Forty years ago today, a nuclear reactor proved it could shut itself down safely. In 1986, EBR-II, a fast reactor, lost coolant flow. It reduced power and stabilized on its own. No operator action. This wasn’t a theory. It was proven at full scale. This is why we’re commercializing fast reactors. They pair inherent safety with the ability to use recycled fuel to deliver reliable, clean energy from existing nuclear material. That legacy continues to shape how advanced reactors, including Oklo’s, are designed. In May, we’ll carry forward that legacy by hosting EBR-II veterans and partners at @INL and NRIC—recognizing their work and highlighting efforts to repurpose EBR-II fuel for our first Aurora powerhouse.

Oklo co-founder and CEO Jake DeWitte has been appointed to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST). As the U.S. strengthens it's leadership in emerging technologies, decisions on energy and infrastructure are becoming more immediate. Oklo is working to help meet that need through advanced nuclear.

Oklo has received its first NRC license. Through Atomic Alchemy, this enables the handling and distribution of critical isotopes in the U.S. 50M nuclear medicine procedures rely on isotopes every year. Historically, deconversion has been co-located with fuel fabrication. Given the various forms of advanced reactor fuel, there are huge benefits with co-locating with enrichment as well. Strengthening the domestic fuel cycle is essential to scaling advanced nuclear and rebuilding American energy and industrial capacity.
