That could change as soon as Wednesday evening with the planned launch of Artemis II. Hundreds of thousands of people near Kennedy Space Center will see the launch with their own eyes and likely millions will watch live online. If you can't make it out in person, I hope you'll tune in and watch as NASA makes its first attempt to send Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen into space and around the Moon this week. It is not often you have the opportunity to witness a historic moment in real time. A group of 1,000 rioters surrounded the Roybal Federal Building in Los Angeles. Rioters are throwing rocks, bottles, and cement blocks at officers. Two officers hit with the cement blocks are receiving medical care. The Los Angeles Police Department is responding to the scene. Two rioters have been arrested for assaulting federal law enforcement—a felony and a crime. Law and order will prevail. Flight delayed on tarmac. Missed our connection. Based on the other flights available, which were also delayed, and the fact that taking a flight tomorrow would require getting back into a security line stretching seemingly for miles, we decided to get a car and drive five hours to our destination. That’s how bad air travel is right now. Driving is faster. Air travel is awful in this country. People don’t realize just how much it sucks unless they have to do it a lot. It’s not just TSA. Flight delays. Air traffic control issues. Service is even worse than usual. Every airport is crowded and slow and worn down and dirty. Everyone brings their dogs. The term “service animal” doesn’t mean anything anymore. Air travel used to be luxurious. People used to wear suits. Working for an airline was prestigious. The employees took it seriously. It sucks now. It’s terrible. This is the kind of thing our leaders should be fixing. Because the most frustrating thing is that it is so eminently fixable. If only anyone bothered to try.

President Trump has the power to convene the Senate under Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution “on extraordinary Occasions.” If a department with 260,000 employees (DHS) going unfunded isn’t an “extraordinary occasion”—especially while the Senate is out on a two-week recess during that shutdown with no plans to resolve the impasse beyond “we’ll deal with that in two weeks”—I don’t know what is.

Elevators used to be manually operated and were especially risky if the operator was tired or inebriated. Now, you just get in, press a button and a modern elevator, if inspected regularly, is extremely safe.
