Exactly. I’m a southern ponk so older bw were on my head the most. They’re the ones who gave me my edge. It is what it is. I can cry bout being a sissy all day but it still wouldn’t compare to what a bw deals with in one day’s worth of social interaction.
S@lostqueenxo

@rossisongo but this also makes me think a lot of #us didn’t actually engage with older black women beyond what we saw or wanted to see rather bc again i just don’t know why someone would expect her to be “nice” hell is your granny nice? ok den

@roxieharrison03 Certainly agree & on a personal level the vibe of the dmv never sits with me when I visit. I’d have to have grown up there imo to get why gogo arose from it bc it’s such a different wavelength.

My first ever favorite Beyoncé song when I was 10. Crazy in Love didn’t make the cut cause I didn’t care for gogo particularly & I still kinda don’t. I gotta be in a gogo mood & I’d rather listen to 1 Thing. open.spotify.com/track/3V5I90js…

People are so micro aggressive towards them they have no choice but to quicken their minds to discern when they’re being played with. Please!

@rossisongo WAKE IT UP! my fav great aunt regularly told ppl to suck her dick when they had her fucked up but like you said mammified bc rarely do people actually take a second and think about what it means to be a black child during the Great Depression

Yes, cause ppl always want bw, especially older ones, to be a mammified safe space. They never had a mean great aunt who let her titties hang out at the family reunion. Her childhood was shaped by the Great Depression, why would she care for a generation who’s only known nectar.
S@lostqueenxo

Evergreen. It’s a shame how people who think they’re being progressive talk about her music. Colorism is pervasive. Most of the time you don’t even realize you’re participating in it, regardless of if you’re also a victim of it. open.spotify.com/track/6WsRA3jP…

And I love that cause I don’t have to feel weird about often asking her for guidance as a yoruba would an orisha, since she on everyone mind anyway.

@rossisongo the last part u said makes me think of her essay “rootedness: the ancestors as a foundation” you can tell she knew exactly what her work not only meant but what it will mean and how it will allow her to live long beyond her human body

My theory is that when she created, or revealed, black american mt olympus in Sula she returned to herself her place there after her human period. Ubiquitous ancestors were always going to be an ancestor, before they were even born.
S@lostqueenxo

@rossisongo you not wrong at all bc the way I’m planning to make Toni Morrison’s carrot cake recipe and read her work is very much so devotion lmaooo
