The Nebra sky disc, 3600 years old. The disc features the oldest concrete depiction of astronomical phenomena known from anywhere in the world. Two golden arcs along the sides are thought to have marked the angle between the solstices.

Emerald, Muzo Mine, Boyacá Department, Colombia. Miniature at 3.2 x 2.5 x 2.1 cm, seated on a pearly white calcite matrix. This crystal is described as glassy, one inch tall, with 12 faces and what the collector calls perfect deep color. That face count stuck with me. 🧵 1/3

Marie-Antoinette was the victim of one of history's greatest identity thefts. A con artist named Jeanne de Valois-Saint-Rémy convinced a Cardinal that the Queen wanted a 2,800-carat diamond necklace but couldn't buy it openly. The Ruse: The con artist hired a Marie Antoinette lookalike to meet Cardinal de Rohan in a dark grove at night. The Result: Even though the Queen was completely innocent and hadn't even met the Cardinal, the public believed she had tried to defraud the crown. This scandal effectively destroyed her remaining reputation.

Heading to #SothebysGeneva is this exceptionally rare and historically important A. Lange & Söhne Grande Complication pocket watch. Completed in 1916, it is the fifth of just nine examples produced between 1901 and 1928, and the final example cased in pink gold. Notably, this Grand Complication brings together an astonishing mechanical makeup for its time, including a perpetual calendar, minute repeater, grande and petite sonnerie, moon phases and split-seconds chronograph in a single watch. Bid now >> bit.ly/4ub11Xx Sold by Lange in 1916, returned to the manufacture in 1936 and acquired by the consignor’s family in 1938/39, it has remained out of public view for generations and now reappears with its original Certificate of Origin, presentation box and period accompanying materials. Discover this and more in the Important Watches live auction on 10 May. Sotheby's Geneva Important Watches Auction 10 May 11:00 CEST Lot 31
