SAPA and Save Al Geneina Initiative are on their second day of providing daily meals to 1000 children in Elamlk Camp in Adre, Chad, amidst a humanitarian crisis facing almost 600,000 Sudanese refugees. On March 12, the World Food Program announced its reduction of aid due to insufficient funding, which puts hundreds of thousands of Sudanese at risk of famine. SAPA is the only Sudanese organization working in Chad and is calling on the international community to participate in any way they can to help. The April war has left Sudanese lives shattered and communities in turmoil, with about 9,000 lives lost, approximately 4.6 million displaced, and another million fled to neighboring countries leaving 25 million people in need of food and medical aid. Watch this brief video to see the heart-wrenching impacts on the people of Sudan, and to understand what's at stake. It's time for all of us to stand together alleviate these impacts and end this war at once. Let's unite for peace, justice, and a brighter future for Sudan. Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA) have been exercising immense efforts to bridge the gap in the medical sector, in addition to other humanitarian aspects in Khartoum and other states. October 15, 2023 Six Months of War in Sudan: Sudanese American Medical NGO Reflects on Devastation of Conflict, Warns Inaction Jeopardizes Millions. SAPA implores the international community to protect civilians as Sunday, October 15 marks half a year since the outbreak of armed conflict. On April 15, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) began clashing in the streets of Khartoum, initiating what has become one of the darkest chapters in Sudan’s history. As an organization dedicated to promoting the health and safety of the Sudanese people, the Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA) is devastated that this war continues to rage six months later. To mark this sorrowful anniversary, SAPA’s Board of Directors issued the following statement: “Our hearts break for the millions of people in Sudan who have suffered – and continue to suffer – after six months of horrific war. For the Sudanese people, this conflict feels like one never-ending nightmare. Hospitals and crowded markets have been bombed to rubble. Thousands of innocent people have died while millions have been driven from their homes. Women have been brutalized by sexual violence while children have faced violence, trauma, and hunger. We are deeply concerned that even as the humanitarian catastrophe grows by the day, global attention continues to fade. The international community is not meeting its obligations to protect civilians, and we are especially disappointed that countries have only fulfilled one-third of the total United Nations appeal to respond to this crisis. The recent announcement that the UN Human Rights Council will initiate a fact-finding mission to investigate human rights abuses in Sudan is a welcomed step to expose atrocities and hold perpetrators accountable – but the Sudanese people require equal attention and action to provide desperately needed humanitarian assistance. More suffering, more violence, and more despair does not have to be inevitable: the community of nations has the power to alleviate this crisis and work toward a brighter future for all of Sudan. We also commend our staff and health workers across Sudan, whose continued bravery and determination is awe-inspiring. SAPA will continue to do everything possible to support them and honor their many sacrifices to provide for the Sudanese people.” ### The Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA) is a nonprofit, professional, non-partisan, and humanitarian organization operating in Sudan since 2019.

SAPA_Jeddah Agreement Press Release May 11, 2023 MEDIA CONTACT Jonny Levenfeld, jlevenfeld@westendstrategy.com, (202) 704-4535 Sudanese American Medical NGO welcomes the agreement to protect Hospitals and calls for Immediate Implementation. Sudanese American Physician Association (SAPA) welcomes the preliminary agreement signed by representatives from the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces, and commends, in particular, the commitment to the security and safety of healthcare facilities & personnel. SAPA calls for both sides to honor the agreement. @YYElamin , president of SAPA, released the following statement: “For weeks, SAPA and partners have called on the SAF and RSF to cease the unconscionable attacks on Hospitals. We asked for the negotiations to address specific measures to protect healthcare workers & facilities. The signed agreement includes provisions to safeguard hospitals, healthcare workers, and ambulances and is a huge step forward if both parties carry through with their commitments. “Medical facilities and personnel have been in the crossfire since the start of this horrific conflict, bringing the health care system to its knees. The effect has been a calamity for the Sudanese people, endangering health workers and thousands of people who rely on their care. “For this agreement to be honored & implemented, the international community & United States must continue to exert pressure on both sides. Empty words with no action are pointless & unacceptable. We call on both sides to execute the terms of this agreement without delay.” If you are interested in speaking further with a senior representative from SAPA, please get in touch with Jonny Levenfeld at (202) 704-4535 or jlevenfeld@westendstrategy.com. ### The Sudanese American Physicians Association is a not-for-profit, scientific professional, non-partisan, and humanitarian membership-based organization for all Sudanese physicians in the United States of America.

PRESS RELEASE May 6, 2023   MEDIA CONTACT Jonny Levenfeld, jlevenfeld@westendstrategy.com, (202) 704-4535   Sudanese American Medical NGOs: Jeddah Talks Must Include Safeguards for Hospitals The Sudanese American Physicians Association says that as attacks against medical facilities continue, mediators must ensure the safety of hospitals    As envoys from the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces convene this weekend in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for negotiations, the Sudanese American Physician Association (SAPA) raised the alarm about an onslaught of illegal, devastating attacks on hospitals.   SAPA called on international mediators to push both parties to declare hospitals safe zones, withdraw all military personnel and materiel from hospitals, and ensure that civilians are guaranteed safe passage to all medical facilities. @YYElamin, SAPA president, released the following statement:   “The preliminary talks in Jeddah are a positive, necessary step in the right direction to end this bitter conflict and protect the Sudanese people from the daily horrors of this war. However, these negotiations cannot give the warring parties a platform to whitewash their crimes. Whatever agreement comes out of Jeddah must include meaningful safeguards to protect medical facilities and personnel from further attacks.   “Attacks against health care facilities are rising by the day, imperiling untold numbers of Sudanese as well as the doctors and staff working day and night to keep people alive. These bombings have continued even amid the ceasefires.   “Bombing hospitals is a crime against humanity itself. Unless the international community intervenes in Jeddah, the people of Sudan will not be able to find any safe haven from this barbaric conflict.”   According to SAPA, 17 hospitals have been bombed since the start of the conflict; another 20 were forced to evacuate because of shelling or armed forces stormed their doors, and another 60 have shuttered due to their proximity to active fighting. SAPA also confirmed that 13 healthcare workers had been killed. The group added that armed militants have choked off access to essential medical supplies by stationing forces near key drug distribution centers.   SAPA, which directly operates and resources hospitals in Sudan, collects and issues daily reports on casualty figures and the status of healthcare facilities in collaboration with the preliminary committee of the Sudan Doctors’ Union. SAPA has also established a free clinic in Wad-Medani for internally displaced civilians fleeing the conflict and offers trauma consultations for surgeons on the ground.   SAPA’s doctors in the diaspora operate a free telehealth service for people across the country to help reduce the burden on the collapsing healthcare system.   If you want to speak further with a senior representative from SAPA, please get in touch with Jonny Levenfeld at (202) 704-4535 or jlevenfeld@westendstrategy.com. The Sudanese American Physicians Association is a not-for-profit, scientific professional, non-partisan, and humanitarian membership-based organization for all Sudanese physicians in the United States of America.
