This is a story that we've seen again and again. Axel Rudakabana. Valdo Calocane. These men were known to multiple services, and they slipped through gaping chasms in the net.

This! It is antisemitism to conflate Jewish people with Israel's crimes. And those arguing that it is antisemitic to oppose Israel's crimes are guilty of that conflation!
Saul Staniforth@SaulStaniforth

Mahmood: "It is unacceptable.. that British Jews are being held to account for the action of a foreign govt" Absolutely Its also true that supporters of Israel conflate British Jews with Israel in order to smear people who oppose Israeli apartheid & genocide as antisemites

@PoliticsJOE_UK I am teetotal and strongly dislike the smell of alcohol breath. I walk through crowded division lobbies several times a week and never smell it. So I can categorically say this is either dishonest clickbait or based on her experience huddling closely with Green Party colleagues

@AyoCaesar @DreadnoughtRN You said that it's not normal to drink at work. Which is correct. But when its pointed out that some workplaces do allow drink, you revert to MPs are getting pissed at work

@DreadnoughtRN I said "drink at work" - "get pissed on the clock" is hyperbole, sure, but there's also no limits on the subsidised drink on the parliamentary estate!

@AyoCaesar Say that then? Don’t say “get pissed on the clock”, it’s dishonest. Equally as dishonest as those who claim the greens wanting to decriminalise heroin = wanting people shooting up smack in the commons.

Again, it's not normal to have a drink at most jobs. I'm not saying that the bars on the parliamentary estate should be closed down, different jobs are different and I think it's fine for there to be variations in working culture, but it's not typical of most white-collar professions.

@AyoCaesar The fact you need to elide “have a drink” into “get pissed while on the clock” is indicative isn’t it?

@AyoCaesar It’s also not a particularly normal job. I’m a private chef, every time I go to a clients I have a drink. Why do we have to pretend everything is the same

@Kentorganics1 I actually don't have a problem with the existence of bars on the parliamentary estate. But it's like Oxbridge dinners or 'dining season' at the inns of court – it's not normal, so don't pretend it is!

I think what you're missing is that sex is relational – 'consent' isn't just about the mental capacity of the teenager. The law already reflects this, which is why adults in positions of trust can't lawfully have sex with 16 and 17 year olds. Would you argue that's irrationally prejudicial?

Right, but you can’t say that whilst saying a 16 year old can reasonably be thought to have the capacity to consent. It’s a contradictory position that requires you to prejudicially declare *all* individual cases of those age gaps as rape, which just swings back to saying 16 year olds don’t have the capacity to freely consent. Because you’re saying the age gap in itself is the problem, not any other specific circumstances of a particular relationship.

Consent isn't just about mental capacity – it's also the freedom to make a choice without violence, coercion, or manipulation. The point about caveating the age of consent so that 16 year olds can only lawfully have sex with others similar in age is about this latter dimension.
Chríss@Chriss_m

It doesn’t make sense. Because either someone is or is old enough to consent to sex. The age of consent is devised is the minimum age at which it is reasonable to believe someone has the capacity to consent to sex. So your idea is stupid. Either 16 is old enough or it should be 18.

@Chriss_m My point is that a 30 year old having sex with a 16 year old inherently involves a power imbalance that impairs consent and the law should reflect that, whereas a 17 year old and a 16 year old depends on individual circumstances.

@dazzle6895 @The_One1001 No, that's not what I'm saying - age gaps aren't the same throughout life (i.e. a 16 year old and a 26 year old isn't like a 26 year old and a 36 year old). But with your faulty reasoning skills, maybe there's cause to worry about your marriage 😂

@AyoCaesar Maybe something like a middle ground where we say a 16 year can consent with someone under a certain age until a certain age.

I'd argue that a 16 year old being able to vote is substantively different from a 50 year old being able to have sex with them, but that's just me!

@AyoCaesar You’re the retards that want to give 16 year olds the right to vote, are they adults or not?
