The pub was built in 1866 and was formerly a Charrington’s house. Architecturally, the building is unusual, as it sits on an end plot rather than on a corner, terrace, or standalone site. In 2016, the pub was nearly demolished and replaced with flats. Thanks to local outcry, however, it was saved.
