Quite a heavy police presence at Ford Fest in Scarborough including officers including ETF, Riot officers, and courts services vans. Police are also riding ATVs, and flying drones. #onpoli
At Ford Fest the police presence just got heavier. From Toronto police to the OPP. This is a heavy contingent of police, keeping people away from the Premier. Unsure whether they are responding to a threat. #onpoli

Very sad to learn that Mona Khalil died after weeks in the ICU following an Israeli strike that levelled her home in Mansouri. She was a very well-known environmental activist and dedicated her life to saving endangered turtles. She stayed in the south despite Israeli strikes because of her love for the land. She was a civilian, a renowned figure but Israel targeted her house. CNN profiled her in 2017 here: edition.cnn.com/2017/08/17/mid… “I live every day to the fullest and don’t worry about tomorrow,” she told the newspaper.
The Liberals have used their newly acquired majority to push through major changes to Canada’s laws at the last minute and shut down debate on legislation with major implications for the lives of all Canadians. This is not normal. This is what happens when a government thinks it can act with impunity.
NEW: we’re learning more about the cost of “Protect Ontario” ads to taxpayers. FOI records show the cost for just one ministry to produce & run them last year was nearly $10 million. The total the Ford government has spent across all ministries is expected to be much higher.

As online harms intensify, children are particularly at risk. To better protect them, our government has introduced the Safe Social Media Act, which will make social media services and AI chatbot services safer for children. The bill, if passed, would require social media services and AI chatbot services to identify, mitigate, and address risks of harm on their platforms, and to develop services that are safe by design and put the safety of children first. It would also prevent Canadians under 16 from having accounts on social media services, while providing a process for social media platforms to seek an exemption if they can demonstrate that they have put in place a sufficient set of protections for children. This law is about holding platforms accountable and ensuring they have protections in place to keep children safe online, reduce harm before it happens, and ensure that digital spaces are safe by design all while protecting the privacy of Canadians.
