Port Saint John has become Ontario’s hub for global trade. In 2024-25, Port Saint John handled a 153% increase in goods from Ontario bound for international markets, demonstrating our growing role as a gateway for Canadian exports. This growth means more jobs, a stronger economy for New Brunswick, and closer ties across Canada. Our investments in the port are making a real difference, turning it into one of Canada’s fastest growing and most connected trade hubs!

The forecast is calling for significant snowfall, particularly in the southern half of the province. Be prepared for slippery driving conditions and reduced visibility. Now is the time to plan ahead and be prepared to adjust travel plans.

As the temperature drops remember to take precautions as you heat your home. Ensure heating devices are properly maintained, with vents and exhausts clear of snow and ice, If using supplemental heating such as portable electrical heaters, make sure they have a dedicated circuit and avoid extension cords. Ensure your homes smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms are tested and functional and Never use a device intended for outdoor use, such as a BBQ or generator, inside-including within garages.

A mobile health care team in Saint John is making a difference for vulnerable individuals who are unhoused or at risk of being unhoused. The team provides vital services, including primary care such as wound treatment, immunizations, blood tests, and counseling. They also offer mental health and addiction support, while also helping people connect with housing services. By meeting people where they are — at encampments and community sites — this team is delivering flexible, community-based care with timely intervention. www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en…

Property assessment notices for 2026 have been mailed out and are on their way. As we work to overhaul the property tax system, a one-year freeze is in place for most New Brunswick property owners that will keep the value for taxation, with a few exceptions, the same as it was in 2025. Disagree with your assessed value? File a request for review online (www2.snb.ca/content/snb/en…) or call 1-888-762-8600 by February 18, 2026. Property tax bills will be mailed out in March. www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en…

We know rising assessment values can lead to higher taxes, which is why we’ve put a one-year freeze on property assessment increases. This means, with a few exceptions, your property’s assessed value for taxes is staying the same as it was in 2025. This freeze is here to help make life more affordable and provide some stability while we take the time to review and overhaul the property tax system. Notices will be mailed out on Monday, January 19. www2.snb.ca/content/snb/en…
