The hilarious part about this argument is that in the design docs for KOTOR, the ethos of the Dark side is literally drawn from Mein Kampf. While the Light side is drawn from Christian mysticism and Buddhism. The Light side is telluric, lunar, feminine and passivity, especially in the way that "the force flows thru" and the almost sociopathic manner in which the Jedi are depicted. The Dark side is solar, masculine, violent, and Will-to-Power driven. It excites hatred, rage and fear, but also visits passion, love and courage upon the wielder, these give them power and influence over the weak. The idea of the Grey Jedi was that they were supposed to blend the passion and power of the Dark Side with the self control and temperance of the Light Side. This doesn't work because the fictional universe and it's depiction in media is hostile to everything that is represented by the Dark Side; the medium refuses to acknowledge the truth and so searches for poorly reasoned substitutes--like Grey Jedi.
Fenrir the Ice Wolf@Fenrirtheicewo1

The Grey jedi as a whole are a stupid and convoluted concept in the Star Wars universe that goes against its philosophy and metaphysics. Lucas himself in the past has explained that tapping into the Darkside of the force is like taking crack, it doesn't matter how much control or good intentions you have at the start sooner or later it will destroy you.

My nephew's first week on his first job: called in sick and got into a fight with management. Week 2: complained to HR about his rights being violated. What the fuck is wrong with kids these days? Are they all entitled assholes?

My most Indian moment in life was when I was a kid I watched a documentary on Greek Mythology in class and I got a crush on Athena so I looked up every article on how to become a God so I could ask her to be my Girlfriend. Was I based or cringe for this?

@WotanicGuerilla Further; a distinction should be understood between disagreeability (the ability to reserve judgement) versus contrarinism (reflexive argumentation based on in/out social dynamics). Contrarinism is for atomized individuals.

Another reason why IQ alone is insufficient for determining whom you entrust society to. I would argue IQ but tempered with a healthy disdain of the out group and a high level of disagree ability. It sounds contradictory, but people who can model friend enemy distinction are not able to delude themselves easily as IQcels.

Out of touch talking point. The majority of NS/WNs now are decently skilled blue collar men, not basement dwelling unemployed incels.

I remember when I heard a new Star Wars movie was coming out and I had just got done reading the Thrawn triology, and hoped that he would make an appearance in the first film. He would have made for an interesting and challenging foe, being a superb intellect and master strategist, using all of his resources to maximum effectiveness. I wrote a short synopsis of what the plot should have been at the time, but it has been lost to time.

"Why don't conservatives produce or fund right wing art?" Because ART is inherently extreme, value pushing, aesthetically challenging, and mind changing. Right wing art isn't a contradiction. Fascists produced tons of art. But no Heckin Wholesome Conservative Christian wants to sponsor it or see it. They'd literally rather keep donating to and paying taxes for the communist art because they're "Well intentioned but mistaken" whereas actual right wing art is "evil". The Average Conservative would rather attend a Nativity musical put on by actual communist homosexuals trying to "queer Christianity"... Than attend an unironic strait Performance of Wagner's Gotterdammerung staged by a racist chud. Because The Communists are "Simply misguided" whereas the chud is "evil". And the conservative would rather see BAD ART produced by their enemy, than GOOD ART produced by the evil extremists they don't want to be identified with. If you wonder "Why is there no right wing art?" Simply ask how many right wingers would boycott "The Turner Diaries: the Movie"

One of the weirdest inversions of the 21st century is that organisations "try to appeal to the youth" by presenting themselves as unserious and childish rather than creating a serious, prestigious image that the youth can hope to attain if they join.

The Cheyenne Dropship is way worse in design philosophy imo. The folding wings with very weird missiles at the ends is just stupid. The body is too square and there is clearly little attention to the propulsion or aerodynamics. The only way it could work is a Bumble-Bee situation.

@snepdeer @henskelion IIRC the suspension is designed to be very flexible, it travels quite quickly thru the colony when they make their escape, Ripley is just not used to driving it so that is why it looks so clumsy.

@ytahen @henskelion The design of the APC makes complete sense. It is just poorly equipped to deal with xenomorphs. It is made for quick deployment and platoon-level tactics against infantry and smaller units. Less tank, more transport.

@MasterMainframe @henskelion Hell, the movie even features a vehicle that's ten times more suitable for a military expeditionary force but of course it wouldn't fit on a small lander aircraft as neatly

Many say that we should skip terraforming and jump straight to disassembling the planetary bodies for raw material with which to construct a Dyson swarm of solar power collectors and O'Neill cylinders. I do not like this idea. It would do great and irreversible spiritual damage to mankind to destroy the wandering gods that have populated our skies since long before the species was born. The justification for such a settlement strategy - maximum solar energy, maximum inhabitable surface area - is indistinguishable from the minmaxing mindset that has led us to convert our civilization's material culture to a homogeneous sprawling blob of McMansion subdivisions, condo towers, strip malls, distribution warehouses, parking lots, freeways, industrial monocrops, factory farms... The thought that we might continue this pattern in space on a vastly larger scale, turning the solar system into the cosmic equivalent of a Bangladeshi tenement crowded with eighteen gorillion hominoids living under Malthusian scarcity due to eventual exhaustion of available resources, is nearly as nauseating to me as the prospect that civilization will sputter out and leave us confined forever to the Earth. Or maybe not, maybe 'civilization' expands from there and does the same thing to every other star in the Galaxy, like a plague that eats stars. Much of the spiritual malaise of our age is because we have turned our eyes from beauty. Beauty can't be measured, it doesn't fit on a spreadsheet, so it doesn't exist at the corporate level. One of the defining characteristics of the cosmos is that it produces beauty in nearly infinite variety. Every natural landscape is beautiful in its own way, seen with the right eyes. Biological life invariably multiplies that natural beauty. Intelligence can go either way: it can produce incredible beauty when it works in partnership with nature, and it can produce abominations when it paves over nature. People say we must go to space to become wealthy. What is the point of wealth without beauty? Or they say we must go to preserve conscious life in the universe. Again, what is the point of consciousness, if not to serve as the witness of beauty? Beauty may not be the only thing of importance, but without it life ceases to be life and becomes mere existence. We should go to space not just to enrich ourselves or to preserve ourselves, but with the intention of working in partnership with the universe to render it more beautiful. I think such a motivation will provide much greater to impetus to exploration and settlement in the long run, because again, what's the point of interstellar expansion? Is it just feeding an insatiable appetite as we try to outrun the heat death of the universe by converting every available kilogram of it to human biomass? There's no way to win that game. We should make ourselves the gardeners of worlds, not their destroyers.

It literally runs over a xenomorph and crushes it, the only reason it gets seriously damaged is due to the acid blood. The point of all of their equipment is that it seems impressive in a "Western-Pistols-at-high-noon" sort of engagement. The tech is shown to have flaws and weaknesses, this thing gets blown up by the dropship crashing into it. One of the major themes of the Alien franchise is corporate corruption; the USCMC is subservient to Weyland-Yutani, and uses the cheap gear it provides. In lore, the only thing that is of any quality is the M41A Pulse Rifles because they are designed by a combat veteran who wanted a better standard rifle for his men. All of these fine points just demonstrate what a terrible series of decisions are made by greedy, soulless corpos who want a unique bioweapon to use on their enemies. Burke is about to be executed by the Marines for being a cash-minded sellout and backstabber, meanwhile they get attacked and the corporate executive is later killed by the series personification of rape.

Based on how it is used in the film, it is designed for rapid urban deployment. The USCMC in film is shown to be a glorified corporate garrison force, they are nowhere near battlefields or warzones, the entire film you only see an entire platoon, which is ideal for a first recon force but is not intended for any lengthy deployment. You can pick all this up by watching the film yourself. Also, in modern militaries you have vehicles that are quite useless except in a specific role such as tiny two-seater prop planes in use by the Air National Guard or armored trucks used by large metro police forces for raids. This thing is perfect for what it is designed for.

@MasterMainframe @henskelion If it's the vehicle for a military expedition force, it would absolutely not be solely designed for urban use, that's preposterous. It's sole advantage is being super easy to stow away.
