In the “Boson” paintings, created in the final years of the artist’s life, Paul Reed attempted to paint what is unseen to the human eye. The Higgs boson is an unstable particle created in a collision that decays into lighter particles immediately after it is produced. Scientists cannot see a boson, only the remnants of its decay. In Reed’s “Boson 2,” a swirling, loosely painted, yellow mass radiates out from a central core. The overall image reflects scientific illustrations that attempt to visualize the collision of these particles. See “Boson 2” in “Paul Reed: A Retrospective” before it closes on April 12! 🎨 Plan your visit at okcmoa.com/paulreed -- Paul Reed, “Boson 2,” 2014, acrylic on canvas, 14 x 14 in., The Phillips Collection, Washington, D.C., Gift of Jean Reed Roberts, 2016, © Paul and Esther Reed Trust
