Strongly agree with @energygovuk @Ed_Miliband that the roll-out of homegrown renewables and electrification is the best way to strengthen energy security and reduce exposure to volatile gas prices. Government action taken today will help dampen the link between gas and power prices, further supporting consumers. Continued support to deliver AR8 and connections reform, as well as to maintain investor certainty more generally, will ensure we can build faster and cost effectively

This morning, @energygovuk has published a raft of energy policy announcements to break the link between gas and electricity prices, and protect households from energy crises: 👉 gov.uk/government/new… Responding to the announcements, our CEO Tara Singh (@RenewableUKCEO) said 📢 “We agree with the Energy Secretary that the UK’s response to global gas price spikes should be to speed up the roll-out of homegrown renewables, coupled with rapid electrification, so that we can move faster towards energy independence. ”Dampening the link between gas prices and electricity bills will help to protect households and businesses from fossil fuel volatility in the long term, strengthening the UK's energy security. “We will work constructively through the details of all the measures being announced by the Government, but we have to ensure that we take investors with us. At a time when Ministers are hoping to attract record levels of investment into renewables, uncertainty over changes to taxation needs to be clarified immediately so it does not drive up the cost of investment. “Given this, we’re very keen to see new measures focused on increasing investor certainty and lowering costs ahead of the next clean power auction this summer. Maximising the amount of new clean power we secure in that auction will unlock the greatest benefits for billpayers, pushing the most expensive gas generators off the system and enabling the UK to move faster towards the electrification of heat and transport. We secured a record amount of offshore wind capacity in the last auction and double that amount is eligible to bid in this time, so we’re urging Ministers to remain ambitious and aim high in the months ahead”. 📰 renewableuk.com/news-and-resou…

Today we are pleased to be supporting the launch of the Grid Users Coalition⚡ From data centres to EV charging, from industry to property, growth depends on access to the grid. But demand is rising and the system is under pressure, with connection queues growing as a result. For many of our members, access to power is now a constraint on investment and delivery. The Grid Users Coalition brings together organisations across the economy that rely on timely, transparent and predictable access to electricity. Initial participants include voices from technology, property, industry, digital infrastructure and clean energy, including Yottar, @techUK, @BritProp, @MakeUK_, @datacentreall, Solar Energy UK, @ChargeUK_, @LogisticsUKNews, and @RenewableUK. 📢 Expanding the UK’s onshore wind supply chain between now and 2050 could add up to £56 billion in economic value (GVA) to the economy and create thousands of new jobs throughout the country‼️ Published today, our onshore wind supply chain capability assessment highlights key parts of the supply chain which would provide the most value to the economy, including manufacturing more onshore wind turbine blades, towers and steelwork, nacelles, drivetrains, cables and electrical equipment for high voltage substations in the UK for onshore wind farms here and abroad. The report also notes that the UK has a strong track record in providing high-value replacement parts to refurbish onshore wind turbines, and makes 3️⃣ key recommendations for the industry and Government: 💷 Make the case for investing in new UK manufacturing facilities by highlighting synergies with other parts of the energy sector such as offshore wind. 🏗️ Ensure the UK’s industrial base is cost-competitive at home and abroad by reducing the cost of electricity for manufacturers and cutting taxes and tariffs for specific onshore wind components. ♻️ Focus on refurbishing and repowering onshore turbines as these areas offer major opportunities to grow the supply chain. .@energygovuk has today released new figures showing that renewables generated a record 52.5% of the UK’s electricity in 2025 - the second consecutive year in which they have exceeded 50%, and an increase on the previous high of 50.4% in 2024 💫 This was due to high wind and solar generation, with both technologies generating 1️⃣0️⃣ times the amount they did in 2015, and wind generation increasing to a record 30% (87.1TWh), up from 29.2% (83.6TWh) in 2024, due to increases in capacity. Our Chief Executive Tara Singh (@RenewableUKCEO) said: “These figures show renewables are now the backbone of Britain’s power system, supplying most of our electricity for the second year running, with wind doing the heavy lifting. What happens to wind turbines at the end of their operational lives⁉️ As the UK renewables sector continues to mature, an increasing number of first-generation wind farms are reaching the end of their operational lives, which typically stand somewhere between 20 and 30 years 🗓️ Many wind farms arriving at the late-life juncture will undergo a ‘lifetime extension’ through the replacement of specific components, whilst we are also seeing an increasing number of wind farm sites being ‘repowered’ – that is, having their original turbines removed and replaced with modern, more efficient models on the same site ⚡ However, all wind farms will ultimately be decommissioned, with turbines, foundations, blades, and cables removed in line with planning and environmental requirements, as well as the waste hierarchy. Yesterday, as part of the #RNISmartEnergy Conference run by @RenewableNI, the Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC) was thrilled to launch its latest video profiling the Northern Ireland Maritime & Offshore (NIMO) Cluster, which brings together the supply chain for the offshore wind and maritime sectors in Northern Ireland. Yesterday @energygovuk announced up to £64 million of funding to transform Port Talbot into the UK’s first dedicated floating offshore wind port, marking a major step in developing the Celtic Sea as a new clean energy hub: 📰 gov.uk/government/new… The investment will support @abports21 to develop the port infrastructure needed to deliver 4.5GW of floating offshore wind capacity – enough to power millions of homes with clean, homegrown electricity. The project is expected to drive significant economic regeneration in South Wales, supporting up to 5,000 jobs and unlocking over £500 million of private investment. It builds on wider Government support for the area, including funding to support Tata Steel’s transition from coal-powered blast furnaces to electric arc furnaces – a shift that will depend on reliable, affordable clean electricity - alongside investment in skills and training, and the creation of the Celtic Freeport to attract new industries. Earlier today the @neso_energy announced a new British wind energy generation record 💪 Yesterday (Wednesday 25 March) wind generated a new high of 23,880 megawatts, beating the previous record of 23,825MW set on 5 December. Commenting on this fantastic achievement, our Chief Executive Tara Singh (@RenewableUKCEO) said: “It’s great to see a new British record, with enough power generated for 23 million homes, at a time when strengthening our homegrown energy security is uppermost in people’s minds due to global instability. “Wind provided more than half of Britain’s electricity during this record period, and it’s highly significant that earlier in the day low-cost wind and solar squeezed expensive gas off our energy system - with gas falling to its lowest level of generation for nearly two years, providing just 2.3% of our electricity. Today @TheCrownEstate announced that it will launch a new leasing round for offshore wind projects (Leasing Round 6) next year, with the aim of securing around 6GW of new renewable energy capacity in the North Sea, and continuing the UK's remarkable offshore success story 💫 Reacting to the news, our Deputy CEO Jane Cooper said: “Current events in the Middle East show just how important it is to base our future energy system on homegrown power generated in UK waters. The North Sea has become an offshore wind powerhouse, strengthening our energy security, controlling the cost of energy and moving us towards energy independence.
