WATCH THIS: Hapless Lee Harris’ fancy lawyer, Joshua Salzman, from Washington, DC doesn’t think crime in Memphis constituted an emergency before the Memphis Safe Task Force’s arrival. In fact, watch him try to explain an emergency by reading a dictionary definition of what an emergency is. Folks, Memphians lived the crime emergency! We don’t need a dictionary definition! Sassy Salzman would be singing a different tune if someone had dropped him off some night in some of our crime-ridden Memphis neighborhoods and told him to get home. Maybe he could’ve showed everyone his fancy Harvard law degree and he’d been ok. But, I doubt it! Since that didn’t happen, I suggest he speak to the Memphians whose lives were so affected by crime in 2023 and 2024. Perhaps he should speak to the gentleman in Whitehaven who worked hard to buy his uncle’s home only to have his car stolen out of the carport not once, not twice, but three times. Maybe he needs to speak to the mom who didn’t feel safe to go to the grocery store after dark or the husband who dutifully filled his wife’s car with gas because he didn’t want his wife to be carjacked while getting gas. I suggest he speak to the Germantown parents who wouldn’t let their high school senior attend a play at the Orpheum after dark or the mom who waited up to make sure her son got home safely after a Grizzlies game. How about asking the dad how he felt after his college age daughter returned home from the airport with bullet holes in the side of her vehicle because there was a shootout on I-40. Speaking of interstate shootouts, who could forget the images of the two Good Samaritan motorists scooping up a small child still missing one of his little shoes and rushing him to the hospital after he and his dad had been been shot driving down the interstate. I have worked too hard to #MakeMemphisMatter than to have Hapless Lee Harris screw it all up by stopping this unprecedented federal and state investment to clean up crime in Memphis. And yes, that includes the good people of the National Guard who are securing areas for law enforcement and restoring order to our city. It’s unfortunate Hapless Lee Harris emerged from whatever rock he’s been hiding under for the last 7 years to oppose our efforts to clean up crime and solve our MSCS education crisis. Like the Democrat governors in the 1960s who opposed the National Guards’ aid to desegregate public schools, Hapless Lee Harris and his Democrat Party will be on the wrong side of history…YET AGAIN!
