@Rafa_Mangual on how Darializa Avila Chevalier’s victory in New York exposes a national paradox: Candidates running on working-class politics are powered by affluent, highly educated voters. “The immigrant who built a career on becoming American has given way to the American-born activist who rejects American patriotism in favor of militant Third Worldism,” he writes. @MarkHalperin explores why young people see politics as a contest between oppressors and the oppressed, and why, for countless reasons, they cast the Jewish state as the great enemy in their lives. “The result is not necessarily hatred. It is something in some ways more powerful: a presumption,” he argues. “A presumption that Israel is wrong. A presumption that Israel is lying. A presumption that Israel is acting in bad faith.” Read the full story here: bit.ly/4xNKtr3

Meet the socialists who dominated Tuesday’s primaries in New York City. Darializa Avila Chevalier, 32, is perhaps the most brazenly hostile candidate toward Israel to have made it this far in American politics. A 32-year-old PhD candidate with no prior experience in office, she toppled Representative Adriano Espaillat, a five-term incumbent in New York’s 13th district. Brad Lander, 56, is the quintessential anti-Zionist Jew. At his son Marek’s bris, Lander gave a speech lambasting Israel. Only a few years ago, Representative Dan Goldman would’ve been considered a safe seat as a progressive center-left legislator in a deep blue district. But, with about 90 percent of the results in, Lander is poised to win the Democratic nomination for New York’s 10th district by more than 30 points. Claire Valdez, 36, is an artist turned union organizer. She won New York’s 7th district, or the “Commie Corridor,” by leaning into affordability and anti-Israel activism as key parts of her campaign.
