@flargh Strong disagree. I'm loving Mastodon. Find a server with people with a common interest - for me it was FOSStodon, for open-source nerds. It's fun, positive, and no nazis. Can still follow my favorite journos/etc, it's exploding right now. Only peeking in here to watch twtr burn.

@elonmusk It sounds so simple! How wonderful! Good luck algorithmically determining whether 288 characters of text is "negative", in however many languages you apply it in. Hint: it is very hard, and you've fired most of your human workers. And even better luck detecting sarcasm.

New Twitter policy is freedom of speech, but not freedom of reach. Negative/hate tweets will be max deboosted & demonetized, so no ads or other revenue to Twitter. You won’t find the tweet unless you specifically seek it out, which is no different from rest of Internet.

For journalists/dissidents: This is why one should not post screenshots or PDFs from sources/whistleblowers, or send original documents back to wherever they came from to ask for comment/confirmation. Type it up and/or paraphrase. (See also the Reality Winner case).

So far it seems like #mastodon is kind of like #twitter, except: - No ads - No Nazis - No egomaniacal billionaires fucking everything up - Better quality content I'm in, with both feet.

Hundreds upon hundreds of Twitter employees have technically resigned but still have access to Twitter’s internal systems, with some speculating it is because the employees tasked with managing that access also resigned.

Word inside Twitter is that A LOT of employees are not saying “yes” to staying at Musk’s “extremely hardcore Twitter 2.0.” He has been meeting today with engineers to convince them to stay. His deadline to decide to stay or leave expired 6 min ago. theverge.com/2022/11/17/234…
