@gwanders

I’ve watched about 6,000 Red Sox games since we got cable tv in the late 80’s. Listened to 100s more on AM radio before that.

@EdHand89 No, not on the mean streets of Sox X. There's more money and adulation in self-pity and nightly apoplectic meltdowns. The woe is me Sox fan is back and it's back BIG!

@EdHand89 The Globe (Dan) is irrelevant. The Herald is vanilla now. MassLive is the closest thing to a rag these days. The team is covered by fans posing as journalists and tv hosts.

The Red Sox are not considering firing chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, a team source told @timbhealey.

@EdHand89 Theo's executive tree rivals Belichick's coaching tree. The idea he keeps in touch with old friends and still has relationships with front offices doesn't surprise me at all. Bad contracts thing sounds like a crock of shit. Kick 'em when they're down, though.

@EdHand89 @tylermilliken_ Yeah. That worked out pretty good, too. Check out Wake's game log from 1995 when you get a second.

16 years ago, Tim Wakefield passed Roger Clemens for the most innings pitched in Red Sox history at 2,776.1 IP. Wakefield finished his Sox career with 3,006 IP over the span of 17 seasons. He also has the record for games started (430) and batters faced (12,971). 3rd in wins.

.@Buster_ESPN on the Red Sox pursuit of a right-handed bat, via @WEEI: ”Today I talked to someone, with another team, that told me that it’s to the degree that the Red Sox ownership has gotten involved. I have not confirmed the name of the owner… but an owner, one of the Red Sox ownership group, is actually calling around and trying to grease the skids to something to add a right-handed bat.”

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'd prefer to let Narvaez work through his offensive slump to make sure he's the team's long-term catcher, rather than watch Gasper catch every day trying to provide a spark to a shitty offense. 🤷‍♂️
Jen McCaffrey@jcmccaffrey

With Mickey Gasper’s emergence, Carlos Narváez’s playing time has dipped. Narváez started 106 games at catcher last year but has appeared in just four the team’s last 12 games. ‘It wasn’t expected’ nytimes.com/athletic/73407…

@EdHand89 Find it interesting and impressive the whole thing didn't burn to the ground after Cora was let go. All involved would look a lot better with Crochet and Roman playing to reasonable expectations. So glad Cora is gone.

I've had no issue with how Tracy has done things in Boston. I also think Cora is one of the best in the business and will land on his feet when he wants to manage again. The manager has been the least of the problems with this team. The rot comes from far deeper within.

Alex Cora on his communication and support of Chad Tracy since being fired, via @Ken_Rosenthal: “It’s what we do… We are a fraternity, I learned that at a young age, and you have to pay it forward. You don’t forget that no matter your role in baseball… Chad has always been there for me. From the moment he joined the organization, I felt like I had a teammate who saw things the way I did and who was always willing to listen when I needed someone to talk to about team matters.”

@BallParkBuzz There's no reason to lament the loss of Priester or Pivetta. An awful lot of Sox fans were relieved to see Sale go. Blaming Breslow for Bello losing it in year 3 of his extension is tough to take seriously. So. He traded Kyle Harrison, who was a bag of balls a year ago.

“Aroldis Chapman is expected to join his eighth different team, and potentially be in the postseason with his sixth different team. He is the top reliever available on every contender’s target list,” per @BNightengale.

@tylermilliken_ Reportedly they value Duran highly and don't want to cash in their relievers. Exactly what fans should want them to do. But...

Craig Breslow told @bradfo yesterday that he has a “great relationship” with Theo Epstein: “Obviously, a ton of respect for what he has accomplished in this role. And also, we have the type of relationship where I don't make a ton out of media reports because I know if Theo thinks there is something we can do better, if we need to strike a better balance, and need to recalibrate, he's going to pick up the phone and call and have the conversation directly.” Breslow reiterated at the end that he sensed no disconnect between the two.

The Willson Contreras experience has been everything you could’ve asked for. Currently on pace for his first 30 HR season (13). 6th in OPS in all of MLB. 11th in wRC+ overall. 11th in xwOBA. Also, 4th in wRC+ out of all 1B. Tied for 4th in OAA at 1B. 4th in fWAR among all 1B.

@Bergeron_MLB @EdHand89 Not in Boston. Two-bit talk radio host openly hoped he'd get crushed in front of the home fans, booed and demoted. Like IKF said....

I’ve seen some absurd takes about Bello the last two days. 1) Yes, they should send him down. It’s been an almost automatic loss when he’s pitching in any capacity, even if he’s personally performed well in bulk relief. 2) No, his $9 million AAV over the next 3.5 years is not going to hurt the team in any appreciable way. These opinions should be universal but I guess that’s twitter for ya.

@tylermilliken_ Too bad they didn't get another bat to complement him this offseason instead of having to give up more capital to get a bad contract RHH.
