My 4 decades in the world, & I have never heard of Ichafu in my life until yesterday. Everyone involved in that attempt to misappropriate Yoruba Gele should be judged like criminals.

O ti su mi (I am tired)
Yoruba culture has been deeply impacted by modernization. It’s so integrated into everyday Nigerian life that many things originally Yoruba are now seen as “Nigerian”. I was surprised to learn Akara and Moi-moi are original to the Yoruba people. I thought it was just “Nigerian”.

You’ll hear stuff like “trenches Yoruba babe” and I always wonder; are trenches exclusive to Yoruba people? Like other tribes don’t have their own trenches too? Funny how everyone goes along with it until another tribe gets mentioned, then suddenly it’s tribalism.

We are ugly. We are dirty. We don’t know how to cook. We are uneducated. We are razz. We are olosho. “Yoruba women no dey fine like this.” “Yoruba women have body odor.” It was exhausting seeing all of that, and yet you’d rarely see us talk down on their women. But at some point, we had to start defending ourselves we are human too. Stop talking down on us. These aren’t jokes, and they’re not funny. You can’t keep dishing out what you can’t take that’s where I stand. You can’t keep triggering people and then get mad at their reaction.
it's me,@feis_tea

They almost took Yoruba women life with constant denigration on this app pre-awakening. But now they can’t wait to wear Gele, Aso-oke, Aso-ebi at their wedding. Olofos.
