Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, who shot two members of the West Virginia National Guard in Washington, D.C., is now confirmed to be a former member of Afghanistan’s most elite U.S-trained forces.
Lakanwal wasn’t just any soldier - he served in the Afghan National Army Commando Corps, an elite unit that fought shoulder-to-shoulder with U.S. Special Forces in some of the most brutal battles against the Taliban.
Fox News reports he was also part of the CIA-backed Kandahar Strike Force (NDS-03), a black ops unit that operated outside official military channels, conducting targeted assassinations, night raids, and covert counterterrorism missions.
This force answered directly to CIA handlers - not Afghan or U.S. military command.
His past is now raising serious questions about vetting, resettlement, and the long-term consequences of America’s covert war in Afghanistan.
