The number one reason for failure of the conservative movement both nationally and provincially is the lack of willingness to compromise.
Let's start with the basics.
No two people in the world think exactly the same.
Which means that no two people in the world share identical thoughts.
Broadly, conservative values can be described as a belief in things like smaller government, free speech, free markets, belief in the individual, individual responsibility, respect for culture and tradition, tolerance, the sanctity of private property and a justice system based on equally for all.
This worldview leads to policies focused around individual rights, protection of private property, lower taxes, public safety, victims rights, economic freedom, private sector primacy in the economy and clear checks on the scope of government.
I've missed a lot here no doubt but my point is that each individual conservative member will have a slightly different way to prioritize their policy preferences based on lived experiences, profession and other factors.
It's the broad values that count. Thinking slightly differently doesn't make a person right or wrong. It makes them a unique individual.
Which is sort of the whole point of the movement.
Conservatives need to stop cancelling other conservatives who do not think exactly like themselves and start focusing on those who oppose smaller government, personal freedoms, and economic prosperity.
Conservatives come in many flavours.
Stop attacking this reality and start embracing it.
Canada and B.C. are depending on you.
