ACA agrees that it's time that political donation laws are reformed to exclude donations from the alcohol industry. It's time for public policy to be set free of the influence of harmful industries. It's time for the health and wellbeing of Australians to be prioritised.
FARE@FAREAustralia

Alcohol and gambling companies and their lobby groups should not be allowed to make political donations. When harmful industries give money to political parties, we all lose - because corporations are buying influence that harms our community’s health and wellbeing. 🧵 #auspol

There’s no healthy option when it comes to alcohol, no matter how low in sugar or carbs. Alcohol is a Class 1 carcinogen that causes 3,500 new cancer cases in Australia every year. Industry must not be allowed to use claims that distract from the harms. bit.ly/3CSThUD

Under the the new Australian Aged Care Act, it is now a requirement for all residential aged care providers to have their menus and mealtime experiences reviewed by an accredited practising #dietitian, minimum once a year. What a victory for the #nutrition rights of #olderpeople!

New research on Australian mandatory pregnancy health warnings on alcohol products found 63% of products display the warning, with few displaying the warning on front-of-packs (0.3%). Spirit and wine producers used the warnings the least (50% & 65%) doi.org/10.1016/j.drug…

Commercial TV companies are trying to slide through changes to their code of practice that would see 800+ hours open up to alcohol advertising each year. Our community want less alcohol advertising on TV and its time their concerns are truly heard. theaustralian.com.au/nation/free-tv…

This story highlights the importance of increasing awareness of the harms caused by alcohol. We know awareness of the harms caused by alcohol is generally low. We need governments to invest in action, like mandatory health warnings, to increase awareness of alcohol-related harms.
