Boomers didn’t “work harder.”
They were literally paid in gold, while college and houses cost pennies.
In 1964 — when the first Boomers turned 18 — the federal minimum wage was worth $146/hr in 2025 dollars when measured in gold.
- A full year of college took ~180 hours of min-wage work (one summer).
- The median U.S. house took ~1,350 hours (8 months).
In 2024, a Zoomer at the same age got $15/hr in gold terms.
-Same year of college now costs 20,000+ hours of min-wage work.
-Median house? 56,000 hours — 27 straight years.
Vietnam War/Stagflation vs. GFC/COVID is irrelevant.
They weren’t “built different.” They were born on 3rd base in tee-ball. We’re expected to pinch-hit in the bottom of the 9th, down 10 runs, in Yankee Stadium.
