At the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, Canada focused on turning global cooperation into real results for Canadians, driving investment home, strengthening resilient supply chains, advancing clean energy, and creating good jobs. Alongside partners like Australia, Japan, Norway, and more, our government is working to connect AI to critical minerals, productivity, and sustainable growth. The message at the summit is clear: AI must boost our economies and support workers, but it must be built to trust. Canada’s approach is pragmatic. We will embrace AI to stay competitive while placing sensible guardrails so Canadians have confidence in how it’s used. Today, Canada is strengthening our sovereign technology capabilities with a new alliance. At the Munich Security Conference, Canada and Germany signed a Joint Declaration of Intent on Artificial Intelligence. Minister Karsten Wildberger and I also launched a new Sovereign Technology Alliance — starting with our two countries and built to grow with other trusted partners. We’ll work together to build secure AI infrastructure, create high-quality Canadian jobs, help our businesses grow, and train workers with new skills — moving from reliance to resilience. This is about building Canadian capability and good-paying Canadian jobs. —- Aujourd'hui, le Canada renforce ses capacités technologiques souveraines grâce à une nouvelle alliance. Lors de la Conférence sur la sécurité de Munich, le Canada et l'Allemagne ont signé une déclaration d'intention conjointe sur l'intelligence artificielle. Le ministre Karsten Wildberger et moi-même avons également lancé une nouvelle alliance technologique souveraine, qui commence avec nos deux pays et qui est appelée à s'étendre à d'autres partenaires de confiance. Great to join G7 partners in Montreal this week to discuss how we can work together on AI adoption and tech innovation. The UK and Canada are strengthening our tech partnership to drive growth, create jobs and deliver for working people.

At the G7 this week, great meeting Germany’s Minister for Research, Technology, and Space @dorobaer and Minister for AI & Transformation Karsten Wildberger. We discussed removing regulatory barriers to AI and the endless applications of AI for science.

We just wrapped up the G7 Industry, Digital and Technology Ministers’ Meeting in Montréal, and for Canada, this meeting was all about delivering real results for small and medium-sized businesses — helping them harness AI and strengthening the partnerships that will shape our digital future. I met with ministers from France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada, along with partners from the European Union, South Korea, and others who are driving global collaboration on AI, quantum technologies, and the digital infrastructure behind modern innovation. One of the biggest outcomes was the launch of the G7 SME AI Adoption Blueprint and the SME AI Toolkit — practical, trusted tools that will help small businesses adopt AI responsibly, scale efficiently, and boost productivity. This is how we turn innovation into real economic gains. Canada also deepened key international partnerships: • Germany — We expanded the Canada–Germany Digital Alliance on AI, quantum, and trusted digital infrastructure. • European Union — Through the Digital Partnership Council, we advanced alignment on innovation, regulation, and digital sovereignty. • United Kingdom — We announced a new MOU to collaborate on digital public-service infrastructure and quantum demonstrators. These are action-oriented partnerships, not symbolic gestures — built to empower companies, secure our technologies, and ensure democracies lead together. It was an honour to represent Canada at the centre of this work. Now the task is to turn these commitments into real opportunities for businesses across the country — and I’m excited for what comes next.
