En el cine actual no se permite usar profundidad de campo porque implica darle al espectador el poder de elegir qué mirar, y lo que se busca es un espectador lo más dormido posible: fondo blureado y todo en medio del plano, alimentando una lógica de consumo y olvido instantáneo.

A pesar de los avances en el cine, este plano de Citizen Kane (1941) es insuperable. No solo por la habilidad narrativa de Orson Welles sino por su extraordinario fotógrafo Gregg Toland quien tenía, no solo destreza técnica sino un sentido estético único.
